I am in the process of finishing our trophy room. It is 34 x 22. It has 16 foot sidewalks with a cathedral ceiling. At the highest point it is 27 feet.

Attached is current room with initial lighting layout. Currently I have recessed cans 2 ft off the wall and about every 3 ft. I want monolight/spotlight/tracklights to add to shine on the mounts and aimed at "face" of mounts. I have read all the conversations and what is recommended and layout is based on what I found.

My concern is the location of the spotlighting. The ceiling is so steep that mounting any type of spotlighting to the ceiling will have a downlight effect. I have looked at suspended track fixtures, some extend 33" and some as much as 52"(sample pic attached). I have to decide quickly so electricians will know for wiring purposes.

I definitely would appreciate advise and feedback. I know many have already been through this and maybe make this less painful for me.

I'd talk to Joe Julian with Julian and Sons if I were you. His contact info might be on their website or you can PM me. Good luck.

I would use 3 each 8 foot tracks on each side of the room approximately 4 feet above the can lights with approx 4 feet between each track . On the short ends of the room I would use 4 foot sections. I would not connect any of the tracks as you show in your drawing. Simply space your tracks maintaining symmetry to the room . I would not use different size tracks on same side of room . You will need 10 each 110 volt boxes centered under each track section . I would use gu10 heads which you can worry about counts later .

Lithonia lighting up to 50 watt bulbs of various types

Also available as singles

Don’t forget to put each of walls on dimmers. Effect changes dramatically as you dim up/ down , particularly with the lovely effect of halogen bulbs.

These tracks/ lights are inexpensive and work great. You can add / subtract heads at any time depending on art/ head placement . Flood or spots are available in 35 or 50 watt.
Do not lock yourself into a pre made fixture like you show above.

I used low voltage spotlights on dimmers to accent artwork and trophies in my house. Sorry I don't have a pic of them, but the fixtures are small and articulate so you can rotate and aim them up or down to focus on a particular piece of art or trophy.

This is what I initially thought I would be doing but standing in the room and 4' up from the cans is around 5/6 ft above the top of 16' wall. These lights will be from 5' to 13' above the faces of the mounts. Aiming these lights at the mounts will cause a downlighting effect. From all the reading about lighting, thought the spotlighting should be more straight on vs downlighting. Thoughts?

I would point your track lights at the opposite wall to reduce the appearance of downlighting.

What I would do is to go down to a lighting showroom and talk to one of their specialist about lighting in the room.

Tell them what you want highlighted and if possible the locations that you have planned for the mounts.

When I was doing electrical work we would send the homeowner down to the showroom before we even started the rough in. We had them decide if they wanted direct or indirect lighting along if they wanted the lights dimmable or just controlled by a on/off switch

The lighting specialist came up with some great ideas.

I say @Rickmt has done this before. I did almost exactly what he states. Even used same light heads, you can use any of 3 GU10 bulbs and in 3 colours. I also had everything on separate switches with dimmers.

My electrician made me talk to my local light shop for a plan and give to him before electrical start they gave me help but are not trophy room designers, (I live in a small town in BC) a call to a pro as recommended would certainly not hurt. My tracks are a good distance from side walls but end way to close, 36" from end walls. They were positioned that way for aesthetics' to have all equal spaced. These lights throw shadows and I will need to climb up place heads further away from end walls, at same time add the other 10 light heads as room is still a work in progress. Eland still on floor with cardboard on wall? Must say I fully understood what I wanted for room but had no clue about lighting, its something that one must get right first time. Good luck.

Thanks to all for the help. I have a lighting professional meeting me on site. Will probably use cable lighting similar to pic. The brand is Stone Lighting. They also have bronze cables and bronze heads.

Thanks again.

Hello, My wife and I hunted with Marius 2 years ago. He fit us into his schedule after a different outfitter "bailed" on us. He was always very good with communications and although we didn't end up meeting him personally, he called us multiple times during our hunt to make sure things were going well. We were very happy with him.

Reach out to the guys at Epic Outdoors.

They will steer you right for landowner tags and outfitters that have them.

I have held a membership with them for years and they are an invaluable resource.

Way better that asking random people on the internet...WAY better
