NAMIBIA: My Leopard Hunt Begins

Johnny here is an idea on how to mount your eland.......this is how I did mine.

That is a truly outstanding mature eland. And hunting them in Namibia is so very different than driving around the back forty of a small game ranch in the RSA. My heartiest congratulations. Glad you and your PH showed some strategic patience on that cat and didn't blow him out of the area with a breath of bad wind. Good luck!!

What he said; plus 1

Johnny, make sure the animals don't crap on your head when they come to eat all those hay bales...

Can you imagine being in that blind, hearing a noise, and look up to see a set up leopard balls about a foot over your head??? :A Banana Sad:

Congratulations on the Eland - great stalk! And, here I am about to get on my next conference call. :Meh:

:E Shocked: then ....:W Sniper:

Good looking eland and sounds like it was a great hunt. I hope the leopard works out for you. Any bait near where you heard the growl? Sounds like a place to work hard.... Bruce

So.... I know what a Texas heart shot is... What do you call that one Royal?

Love the Eland, he will make an awesome mount.

I don't know what you call the shot, but if you miss from there and nick one of those nuts and that leopard falls on you.... Can you day being in a dryer with a bunch of razor blades and barbwire????

:E Excited::A Samurai::E Excited:

On the bright side if you shoot him in the balls he'll die f a broken heart.

From my experience with cats, I suggest you just tell everyone you are allergic and they should keep it away from you. Within minutes you will find him circling around your legs or sitting on your keyboard. Guaranteed.;)

I am looking forward to reading about the rest of your adventure! It's been great so far!

I do want to take an African Wild Cat and some other small predators.... So that would present a great opportunity to get in some practice!

Your taking some great animals there buddy. I hope that cat decide to come to the bait for you as you are earning him with some hard hunting. Looks like your Ph is working hard for you so that is in your favor. Good luck on your last few days.
Thanks bill. Leopard not looking good. Had a cat last night circle our blind we could hear him purring. Several honey badgers on the bait. Cat would not go in. Rotten luck on this cat hunt

Build another blind Johnny! Leave the one that you have built just as it is. Sit in the new blind. Hopefully, build the new blind in a slightly less obvious place, maybe further back and hopefully you can leave it unoccupied for a night? He will come in and investigate the same blind and find it empty, and should move to the bait. I think its simply a case of a new structure in the area that got him interested and made him investigate. This is not the first time that I have heard of Leopard doing this.
Good luck. We are waiting for the photo.

There are so many leopards in this area. We have an active bait going now. Hasant hit it in two nights. Hopefully tonight.

Day 11. Last night we had our fresh bait up we have plenty of evidence that we are in his area. Scraping on the ground etc. We had the cat circle us last night purring very close to our blind. He wanted to go into the Bait we believe but unfortunately honey badgers were all over our bait I was told the leopard will not go in if they are there. Just another set back on an already difficult situation. We unfortunately could not get onto this farm until this past Tuesday as they had no room for us. There is no drought in this area and the baits were being hit. So now we must try to be successful in what was 4 days and now 2.

My PH is going to move the bait slightly down river on his trail that he uses in a "better" tree and make it difficult for badgers to get into. Those badgers will go back to the bait. We will leave the old bait and take our fresh impala bait and set up another blind. I firmly believe if the badgers were not there he would have hit the bait last night. Talk about going right down to the end. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks everyone for your support.

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!
