NAMIBIA: March 2024 Jamy Traut Hunting Safaris

Congrats for sure! I completely agree with @BRICKBURN on how special it had to be to hunt over such a large and varied terrain. Add in the environmental experience with the rains, drought, greens, etc and you had quite the adventure. Exactly what one dreams of when thinking of Africa. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comments. I’ve wrote a lot about Kaokoland the last few years in different posts. Part of reason I wrote report and included so many photos is I wanted to show what’s available. It’s actually not much more cost than the average PG hunt in Namibia if someone else wants to experience it. This was a unique adventure in early season though and I’m not sure for everyone. I think May onwards would be best.

What a wonderful hunt. Looks like you had a great time. Some very nice trophies. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing! Very helpful to read and loved following along.
What did you decide to do with your giraffe? mount wise I mean... skin? chair? etc...

I'll be heading to Namibia for my first time this coming August... giraffe, springbok & zebra on the list at minimum.
Mainly Kaokoland - intention was 7 days hunt, but may ask to transfer to Panorama for 1-2 days to break it up.

It's only my 2nd safari, first being Aug '23 - so I'm a bit nervous and of course excited.

It’s my second giraffe. The first I got a floor shoulder mount. This one I just took the leg bones and had them carved. With a giraffe you can hunt for a younger prettier bull with nice skin or an older beat up bull but the skin will have a lot of scars. They’ll give you good advice during hunt and you’ll see how much game is or isn’t in area at time to make a decision, but I really enjoyed finishing at panarama. Getting a gemsbok is a nice addition to hunt.

I wasn't originally interested in the giraffe and originally wanted to trade it out.
In South Africa, that was the one game animal that I found most striking and gorgeous to watch in its element...

My initial thought was I would really only want to shoot an old bull for conservation/ mgmt reasons...
but you make a good point on the older bull's skin and scarring.

I guess because I'm still morally-anxious on the giraffe, not sure a younger bull makes sense for me, even though would produce more beautiful skin. That's when it feels like it's just trophy hunting for pure sport vs. conservation and management of the herd.

Gemsbok I do hope to add on as well as an ostrich potentially for feathers. But I guess one could make the case that the ostrich is for feathers and "a trophy" now that I say the reasoning out loud. I think because it's an ostrich with no personal connections to it like one may have to a giraffe, is why the moral-anxiety hahaha

The area you’ll be hunting has a really high density of giraffes and is relatively open. You can really look over a lot and take a nice old bull. It’s one of the better giraffe hunts I could think to do.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
