My Thanksgiving Deer

I hope your not disapointed. We only shot cull deer in the muly catagory. Just tryin to get our genetics right. We let all the impressive big mature monsters walk. Wish I'd been able to get a picture of a 5 1/2 year old 190 class buck I saw a few times last week. I'll give him two more years before he gets shot. Mule deer don't peak till about 7 1/2 years old. Whitetail peak about 5 1/2 years old.

Thank you, I definitely try. I've had my ranch under intensive management from day one. I'm finally starting to get a surplus of mature whitetail. The mule deer will take a few more years yet. I'm actually looking at being able to offer a whitetail hunt next year in addition to my normal exotics, hogs, winshooting etc... Deer management on free range deer herds is very time and labor intensive. Thank goodness I have a great biologist!

I understand you.....the results of appropriate management in a hunting field can be seen in a long term.....years.....but eventually you will see them.......I have seen this in the differents hunting reserves I have worked and were subjetc to management, and the results have been high succes.....just work in the right way and patience is needed.....once you have the circle completed is done.....!!!
