@C.W. Richter - I like my Rem 760 Gamemaster in .30-06 (purchased New 1981 $219) and recently bought a ANIB 760 in .308 that was close to collector grade for “only” $750….I intend to hunt with it. Agree that on running big game they are great but the only running Big game animal I ever shot with mine was an Elk @ 60 yrds and my two shots each struck the rib cage and the elk dropped witching 75 yrds. I know I could hit that Elk once with my bolt action — but Not twice.
Certainly the “Benoit’s” are legendary whitetail hunters in Maine and have a snow/tracking/trailing style they’ve perfected. What I wonder is how many “rump & leg shot” deer are lost or recovered days later? Also, without fresh snow - the method is much less effective. These men are fine woodsmen, self reliant, and excellent Solo Hunters. I would be reluctant to shoot any running game in Africa that was Not already wounded.
