My First Proper Rifle

Congratulations! A fine rifle, I'm sure. I hear some have felt the need (or want?) to improve the trigger on Brno rifles. Some are good from the factory.

Looks as if this particular rifle has a set trigger that you push forward for a very light trigger release.

There are many excellent brands and models of ammunition for 7x57. What you should buy may depend on what exactly is available.

I am merely hours away from shooting it and reporting back to the group on these forums . Thank you so much for your kind words.

Congratulations the ZZK 600 is a fine rifle, and the 7x57 has been taking game all over the world for over a 100 years. I really enjoy shooting my ruger #1 in 7x57

Thank you so much for your kind words.
My clients used to accomplish some rather improbable successes with bolt operation rifles calibrated for the 7 millimeter mauser cartridge .

Congratulations sir! I have shot the Oryx out of my 30-06 and my wife shoots it out of her 270 Winchester. They have performed very well in Africa and in the US.

Congratulations Kawshek on a very fine rifle and chambered in a wonderful cartridge. I also would prefer to use Norma Oryx if restricted to a factory load. When you get set up to handload, then will you be able to wring all the good from the little 7x57.

I have used Norma Oryx, 180 grains, in 308 win. Excellent choice. I can recommend as well. Accuracy excellent, and effect on game excellent (boar, roe deer, fallow deer)!

I have received them just now , Kawshik .

The seller could not meet me before evening . I will bring them to you tomorrow morning and we can give them a try . Sound good ?

One more ammunition comment - if choices are few, and you find Sellier & Bellot ammunition is available, be aware that not all their ammunition uses good quality bullets. Some is very good, some quite poor. Their basic 175 gr. SPCE bullet is made with a light steel jacket plated with copper. I have killed deer and wolf with this bullet, and it killed the animals but expansion was erratic and some bullets lost their metal jacket and some seemed not to expand properly. I would not recommend that bullet. However, they also load 7x57 with 175 gr. Nosler Partition and with their own 154 gr. all-copper plastic tipped bullets. Those two I would have full confidence in. I used their copper bullet a couple months ago to hunt wild boar in Germany with good results. You mentioned a wish to reload your ammunition in the future. S&B brass is not my first preference for reloading. Primer pockets are quite tight and somewhat difficult to worth with. Norma is very good, as is RWS. Perhaps the best. There is nothing wrong with brass from the big three American firms Remington, Winchester, or Federal. Federal brass seems a little soft and may not give as many reloads as the others. Hope that helps!

I confirm this, as well - SPCE (soft point cutting edge), ans SP - my experience the same!

PTS is a bit better. medium price and quality, corelocked type of bullet, holding slightly better

But they are also loading s nosler partition (NSR), and also have monolthic exergy bullet, which is good (XRG), those would be very good.

Thank you so much for your kind words and support. Are the 156 grain bullets adequate for Sambhar deer ?

If everyone is recommending the Norma Orynx , then it must be better than Federal .

You got me a whole box ?! My friend, you have really outdone yourself this time . How much did it cost you ?
Come now , Kawshik . Do not worry about the costs . And of course , l purchased an entire unopened box ! I am not that incompetent that l am going to bring back a handful of loose cartridges ! Some imbecile might have improperly hand loaded them .

Norma Oryx, i have experience with in 308 win. Is excellent! (roe, fallow, boar)
For federal, I cannot say - I never tried.

There is however, a claim, that american makers for some reason produce ammunition in medium Mauser calibers like 7x57 and 8x57, with lighter loads. Reduced velocity. I never tried, or never checked by chrony.

But for Norma oryx, i can confirm. Bonded bullet, excellent quality. Good accucarcy from lot to lot. Does not change point of impact with different lots
Check what are the heaviest bullet in 7x57, and it should be OK. I think sambar is big deer, so bullet as heavy as possible.

This is not done . You went through a great deal of trouble to get them for me , old friend. You already spent a great deal of money this time treating Fabliha's In-laws for free at your bistro . You must accept the payment !

Sambhar deer are extremely large . They are similar in size to an American elk.
That is where l wonder if the Norma Orynx 156 grain bullets will be adequate. I have zero doubt that it will prove adequate for a Chital deer.

Areh dhur ! That is nothing .
Actually , you can re pay me in 1 small manner. Since you sold both of your .22 Long Rifle calibre rifles , may l have your remaining boxes of .22 Long Rifle cartridges ? I have recently become a very avid fan of shooting pigeons on bait .

Consider it done . Take it all tomorrow ! I have over two thousand cartridges. I will never use them again ! A whole box of 7 millimeter mauser cartridges ... Do you know what this means ?

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
