my .470 lang double before and after being restocked and refinished by j roberts gunmakers

Spike, that is indeed a fine and classic double....

For comparison, mine has 23" barrels and weighs in at 10,6 pounds with the .475 barrels....a short and handy rifle....I feel the weight is right...there is recoil but not that obtrusive.

thanks , like the sound of yours with the 23 inch barrels and a nice weight. mine has 26 inch barrels but i wont mention again that i was going to have them shortened to 24 inch as some people on here start crying at the thought.....;) as they like 28 inch and above for doubles :E Shake Head: it weighs a little more than yours but not much.

Dont think those 3" matters much....you get a higher muzzle velocity and it might swing better in a tight spot...(y)

Glorious job on the restock. Have you thought about having the receiver color case hardened again? I think it would really look exquisite if brought back the full measure. Not that expensive of a task either.

not sure if it was coloured originally and in the metal i quite like the steel finish. paul has another lang that is colour hardened and looking at them together i like both equally.....so as they are both for sale you can choose ;)

Hi Spike,
Is that the same 470 Lang for sale at Roberts now? if so what were the bores like? and do you know more of its history? thanks

Cheers
Steve

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
