my 404 Jeffery - finally

thanks all for the compliments, my gunsmith really brought the best out of this rifle and hence why I only wanted to post the pics once completed, we knew it would turn out like this. I am really happy with the outcome.

..now, you're welcome in an exclusive club. Enjoy your 404 the way it should be - on a charging buffalo.. :sneaky:

You should be happy - that is a wonderful looking rifle in one of the great cals. Your guy did wonders with that stock. I have a .404 built on a CZ action and have been floored by it's accuracy. I went ahead and mounted a low power scope (Talley quick detachable mounts) - and it is a true 250 meter rifle if I need it to be.

@Red Leg what grain bullets are you using and what make ?

I intend using either Woodleigh or swift Aframe in 400g

I am getting sub-MOA (one ragged hole) from 400 gr North Fork SPs. Lance Hendershot http://www.hendershots.net/customAmmo.aspx loads them for me in his "Extreme" line. I would be equally happy with Woodleigh or Swift if they did as well in this particular rifle. Haven't yet worked up which solid works best in it. You'll love the caliber.

I am drooling!

Beautiful rifle in a classic caliber. How can a man not get excited over such a combination?

I shot the 404 today at the range , I am yet to finalize my load but I did achieve good grouping with the woodleigh 400g with an ave speed of around 2250fps

this is exactly what I wanted and I am close to achieving my desired load.

this rifle is an absolute joy and pleasure to shoot .

I just received confirmation that my 3 position safety's have arrived and I plan to install them on my 404,416 and 375.

I will post a picture once installed .

the 3 position safety's that will be installed , they are currently being blued .

I have received my CZ 550's back with the 3 position safety's installed

I will post a picture of the 404 Jeff tomorrow after my range session while testing some woodleigh's and swifts

Gonna look kind of funny with all those safeties on there. Gonna look like a bleedin' porcupine!

With all those extra safeties I'm wondering if he didn't ask Obama for modifications advice! ;)

Bassasdaindia,

Those are beauties.

I look forward to reading about your experiences with your new .404.

One day I will find the right deal on a .404.

Here in Alaska, my favorite Gunsmith is having trouble getting 3 position safeties for the CZ magnum actions.

He prefers Gentry brand and they are back ordered for a long time now.

I have temporarily taken delivery of my .500 Jeffery (CZ) after he thoroughly re-worked it to feed reliably (and it does) but, I will have to return it again when the new safety arrives.

Cheers,
Velo Dog.

Beautiful rifle, Bassasdaindia, congratulations !

thanks Velo Dog and Nyati

I am almost complete with my 404 Jeff , the 3 lever safety's really look and function nicely .

thanks again for the compliments

if you decide to use the woodleigh 400gr SP bullets be carefull about pushing them too fast. woodleigh recommends no faster then 2200fps and ive seen bullets come apart for people who push them too fast.

for the 404/416 cartridges that push 400gr bullets around 2300+fps i like Swift A-frames and Barnes TSX. another bullet my PH likes is the GS custom high velocity (http://gscustom.co.za/) which i hear is more affordable in RSA then it is here in the states.

She is a fine looking rifle sir. I trust you will take many trophies with her.

Matt , my current load gives me 2240 with the Woodleigh SP , I just need to find the correct accuracy node.

Congrats on a fine looking rifle in a very capable caliber!

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
