My 375,

After much deliberation and reading on here about what to get, I finally settled on a pre64 m70 in 375hh. Listening to every ones recommendations this was best rifle for me to get. The pre64 was just a lucky find on my part.
After owning this 375 for about a month or so I have learned some things.
1, The folks here actually know what they are talking about.
2, A 375HH in a 9-10pound rifle/scope is not the snot knocking monster some folks would have you believe. I would compare mine to my 20ga savage slug gun in felt recoil. I have set behind my 375 and fired 30-40 shots from a bench in one session doing load development . (after the first session I did order a PAST recoil shield. got a bit tender around shot 25)
3, A 375HH will shoot and shoot well. I have settled on a load. 67.0g of varget with a 300gr TSX set to 3.570 CAOL. crimped with a lee factory crimp die. My chronograph puts velocity at 2500fps. It will shoot one hole at 100 yards if I do my part. Yesterday I shot 100,200,250 yards to check drops. 2 shots at 100 yards where touching off of the sticks at 250 yards the 2 shots where 1 1/2 inch apart. This is with a Leupold 1.5-5x scope.
I can see why folks talk so highly of a 375 now. I see another one or two in my future,,,,

I can shoot like that off bench and bipod with rear bag. Standing tripod is much worse, but plenty good to hit vitals out to a couple hundred yards.

Once you move off the bench and into sticks the recoil is actually more tolerable-not after 25 shots tho! Ouch!

The target was sight in at 100yards from sticks yesterday. First 2shots cold clean barrel. Right and low. Shot 4 more shots a farther distance and get velocities.
Next two shots where after scope adjustment to the left left. Then another 2 shots after adjustment just left of center.
I will shoot it again a few more days. If I am consistent with slightly to the left at 100 I will put another click in.
But I would not have believed a old 375 would shoot shots touching at 100.

Nice looking rifle! The 375 h&h is definitely a fun one to shoot. I built the improved version for myself and shoot it more than most of my other rifles. It’s just to much fun.

They are very accurate. Here are two targets from mine, a model 70 mfd in 1966.
One is from 100 yards from a bench and the other is from 50 yards off sticks.

Sweet setup! I love Model 70's!

My own .375 is a little older....started with a M1917 Enfield action. Had to use an ugly composite stock, though, as the stock I wanted isn't made in wood anymore. At least not that I could find....replica of an A-Square Hannibal. Hard to beat a .375! Mine is a Weatherby, but I can shoot H&H's out of it and have done about sixty so far. Now just need to take it to Africa

I've used mine in Alaska and South Africa and I love it. As far as being a shoulder wrecker, I sometimes use the brake at the range but never while hunting. As 270gr says, there are several lesser rds that recoil sharper than the 375. The 338 rem mag comes to mind. those bastards hurt!

That's one beautiful rifle. You'll be surprised what the 375 H&H is capable of. In 2022 I hunted behind a CZ-550 and it opened my eyes on what the 375 can do. Enjoy your new rifle. Well done!
