Muzzle loader sights

I’m thinking of burning my points on a Colorado hunt this fall during the muzzleloader season. As you can’t use scopes in Colorado, anyone have a sight they like on their muzzleloader? I read about the Williams western site which has a rear peep and a front site with crosshairs. I think they have a fiber optic front as well.

I also read about a seeall site, but there are some blogs questioning if it is legal or not in Colorado.

I ran the SeeAll sight on my Colorado muzzle loader for years, we even had the blessing of CP&W field officers. That was until a year or so ago and someone asked the powers to be in Denver if they were legal and they flat out said that they weren't due to the piece of plastic that magnifies the small delta sight.

So, I purchased the Williams sight to put onto my TC Triumph when I pulled the SeeAll sight off. Last year all I shot with it was targets but I like it. I tried a few different inserts for the front sight and settled on the post insert. Once I decided on the insert I put some blue loctite on the threads of the part that holds the insert in to keep everything tight.

My only gripe is the adjustment on the rear peep, there really aren't any fine adjustment. You just loosen a screw and move the sight up down or sideways. I would of liked a screw adjustment but other than that it appears that it will work quite well.

Where are you planning on putting in for and what animal?

I’ve been considering the same thing (cashing in points) and purchased the williams set for the front sight only, then I added an EABCO rear sight/base. This gives me the option to hunt with a scope in my home state and with the rear peep out west.

Only targets so far, but very pleased.

I just looked up this rear site. It looks like it has micro adjustments for the prep. Thx.

As my eyes have aged along with the rest of me I have found that using iron sites has render some of my rifles not usable without a scope. My favorite rifle for years was a 336 Marlin in 444. Putting a scope on a lever action did not sit well with me. I had put a Skinner peep s site on the gun and once again it is not only shootable but allows for faster target acquisition. The company makes numerous sites for many rifles including muzzle loaders, good luck.

I can't really see traditional iron sights very well at this point in my life, but I can shoot an aperture (peep) sights almost as well as a low powered scope. I have a Williams peep sight on a 30-30 and it makes a great close range deer rifle.

If you used a traditional rifle, I would recommend a Williams 57 (suffix varies). After an absence of some years, they are once again available. These put the peep fairly close to the eye.....Old people often use the 0.25" aperture, and young bucks go with smaller. Although I have tried many a front sight, a white bead shows up best against a brown elk....at least for me. But alas, this info likely useless in the World of Stainless, in-line, pellets and shoes.......best of luck on your rifle and your drawing...................FWB
