Music Enthusiasts?

What's the saying... "Broaden your horizons" :)

I have noticed in, what are labeled third world countries, a culture of shy demeanor is always pleasingly different. IMO, that is also true of their music. Here's another visit to the Voice TV show in Nepal, Kids version. I enjoyed the refreshing simplicity and humility of 13 yo Pasang Dikki Sherpa and this made me smile :)

Great natural talent lost to a plane crash at age 30. Another of my generation.

So for all of you music lovers, my wife really surprised me this Christmas! She arranged a full day quail hunt at Charlane Plantation where I’ll hunt and have lunch with the plantation owner; Chuck Leavell. If that name isn’t familiar to you, think Rolling Stones. Chuck has been the keyboardist for the Stones for about 30 years. He’s also been with the Allman Brothers Band and toured with Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd and many others. Can’t wait to spend the day hearing his stories!

A lot of interesting posts on this thread and a wide variety of musical interests.

My all time favorite band is a little obscure and somehow never really met with commercial success.
As a kid, my mom listened to a little Gypsy Jazz - Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli so the duo of guitar and violin was imprinted at a young age.
In the’70s my brothers were real fans of The Dixie Dregs (which became The Dregs and then more or less The Steve Morse Band))
They are still my favorite band and I think no other has really approached their unique style which is quite vast ranging from country, to southern rock to Celtic influenced to some impressive classical pieces.
Steve Morse was Guitar Player Magazine guitarist of the year so often that they retired him to allow Satriani and Vai a chance.
Violinist Alan Sloan, bassist Andy West, drummer Rod Morgenstien and T. Lavitz on keyboard were the classic lineup but Mark O’Connor did fiddle for them as well although not as goos a Sloan IMO.
Back to the Grapelli violin, O’Connor did play on one of my favorite recordings - Stephane Grapelli & David Grisman, recorded in 1981. It’s fantastic.
Damn near wore that record out!

Now, in the Gypsy Jazz vein, Joscho Stephan is about he top guitar player around - definitely worth a listen.

Grab some good headphones and give any of the Dregs albums, the Grisman Grapelli album and some Joscho Stephan a listen - could change your life!

Always looking for variety and new music. That's the reason for posting such as the Indian Clsssical vocal, veena, tabla, sitar, etc. Same reason for the appeal of McKennitt's compositions. Same for the couple of Nepal music examples posted earlier. Mechu Dhimal was the artist that did the Nepal performance with folk dance troop of "Maya Gayo Gaun Chhadi". Another example is this short studio clip by Mechu Dhimal.

Back to The Who with possibly their most recognizable signature song. Released in 1971, Baba O'Riley

Here's another classic from 1970 by The Guess Who, an American band... not to be confused with The Who, a Brit band. They were not nearly as big as The Who. But, IMO, as simple as this song may be, they nailed this early music video of "American Woman".

In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
