I recently received two Musgrave rifles. These were made for me in Ermelo, South Africa

The first is in 7x57 and the second is in 6.5x55.

They could be. Just have to pay higher tariffs. The prices they cost they’re still competitively priced compared to US Built rifles.

I’m still deliberating having a pair built. I hd the opportunity to purchase a couple cold-war grail guns and a Ruger RSM Rigby so the project got back burnered.

Got a Musgrave Model 98 in 9,3x62 years ago. I use two older Zeiss scopes on it, 8x56 and 1,5 - 6x36. One of my go to rifles.

That’s funny, the tariffs will slow the import of Musgrave. How many people on here have ever seen one in the us? I’ve been to gun shows all over the US and I think I’ve seen 2. Hell you don’t see many in Africa.

I visited once Musgrave in Bloemfontein in the 90ties and was surprised by the effort, those guys invested in their rifles. I actually saw quiet a lot of them in the farmers gild. They were barreled in .308 Win and 30-06 and were highly demanded in these days.
Some years later (around 1995/96?) Musgrave closed its doors and turned into VECTOR. The name Musgrave was overtaken by a privat person. If I remember right his name was Frikky, he bought the rights and handled the name further.

Besides all this promising Company names: If You can get hold of a good 1908 Brasil or 1909 Modelo Argentino K98 action (VZ24 and Brno actions will do well too, they were made on the same machines) accompanied by a passion driven gunsmith who is able to screw on a barrel precise on that k98 action, pimped and polished the right way and finally finished with a well fitting stock and trigger of Your taste and body shape, You should be at the end in a more than accepatble pricerange with a pearl of a custom rifle in Your caliber, style and quality!

Frikkie du Plooy bought the Musgrave name and set up shop in Ermelo. The newly constituted company acquired Austrian-made barrel making equipment and started producing a new action known as the M21.

Musgrave still manufactures a rifle based on the 98 Mauser. Musgrave produces a beautiful stock made from Turkish walnut and this stock was designed by Frikkie du Plooy.

Frikkie's stock is beautiful and it is extremely comfortable to shoot.

In April, Musgrave released a new switch barrel model.

I have a Musgrave 300H&H and it’s a tack driver.
Probably one of the only companies that still chamber for the cartridge.
A 300 H&H and 375H&H would make a nice combination for the new switch barrel model.

So people keep their musgrave rifles for more than a lifetime or there are not many around anymore ?

Here in Germany there are few rifles from this brand for sale, once a year or so! They are not very good paid, because so many great k98 rifles are for sale!
For example: A really good used mauser 98 hunting rifle in 9,3x62 with quality open sights, nice walnut stock and costy trigger runs in the moment around 700-900 Euro! No scope!
But worth every cent!

They also showed me their new switch barrel rifle. It will accommodate nearly any caliber, as their plan is when you change caliber, you would change barrel, magazine, and bolt or bolt head. And at that point, they thought each change package would be in the neighborhood of $1000 USD.
Very cool concept.

I had a Musgrave 7.62 target rifle that I used for long range prone match years ago. It was a very good rifle, bombproof. I had zero problems with it overall.

This exchange - barrel - concept is old stuff. Actually every european manufacturer has this idea realised for more than 20/30 years. Best known is Blaser, Sauer and Co! Combination guns from Heym and Krieghoff or Merkel even from the beginning!
It seems to me this thread is a sort of smooth marketing for Musgrave!
I would appreciate more details and pictures of their todays production and products to explain the above said!
Besides: Someone who travels with a gun and two barrels has allways the wrong one installed.
I met a guy who carried a dream of a bolt action gun from Ferlach with two exchangeable barrels in 300 Win and 375 H&H! At the end he shot his Springbock with the 375 over 250 m and the Eland went lost with the 300 Win in deep bush because of whothefuckknows!
Resume: Keep it simple!

I am not affiliated with Musgrave. I just mentioned what I had happened to see when I visited on the way through town.
If you want more information, I would suggest going to their website or calling and speaking with them. They seemed very approachable.
And I happen to like the idea of taking a 416 for a buffalo hunt and being able to switch to 22 Hornet to hunt some of the tinies after taking my buffalo. Sorry if it offends your plans.
Losing an eland may or may not have been the fault of the 300wm. That's a far leap to make. If it was poor shot placement, a 375 may have helped. But it may not have as well.

Well, anybody can happen to like whatever he wants! And You won‘t offend any of my plans. At least I‘ve got a good one!
I understand this forum as a platform for people who search for hard proven advise to make a good and practical choice when travelling the long and expensive way down to the wide and open spaces to experience what was long time reserved just for rich people with immens funds available!
I like to share what I saw and experienced and if somebody asks me, what is nessessary to make a hell of a hunt in africa for the many dollars he invests, I can give all the infos to end up with exactly that result!
Besides, my believing isn‘t new, strange or even fancy at all!
Mr John Taylor himself was searching in his days allready for the one gun rifle, which will successfully fill his bag with all throphies he was looking for and ended up with a 450/400 double which launched 400 grains bullets at anything he was aiming at and done he was!
And it was absolutly normal to have more than one gun in the personal battery those days.
He even writes, that using just one gun gave him more confidence and trust in his shooting since he knew the capabilities of his perfect fitted gun !
In those years the 375 h&h and 9,3x62 were invented too, I ask You with which cause? The idea is the one gun resolution for all guys shooting sometimes at big gamer and sometimes at lesser animals, depending on what was close and angry or on the have to get list!
So You can happen to carry a gun with some barrels as long as You want. I will take my one good gun, a bunch of ammo and then go hunting never even thinking a second about the damned barrel or caliber I have in my gun right now!
