Mozambique: Elephant Population Almost Halved

I was looking for the CITES quota for Moz this year and they have not set it as yet.
CITES said they are awaiting data from the government.

Brickburn, thank you for bringing this to my attention, emails have been flying around today, don't think a single operator new about it. I have been on the phone today to several operators and just got off the phone with the chairman of AMOS. The govt is promising immediate reaction.

As to the elephant numbers, I was referring to your opening post, I don't think those numbers are correct. But interesting.

CITES requested the information several months ago.
What was strange is when I emailed the government officials they sent me to CITES.
CITES sent me back to the same official stating that they were awaiting data they had requested several months before.

Judging by the reaction I can see that others foresee the same potential problems I did.
Hope the government gets on it quickly.
