Total rounds shot on safari hunt?

I used my outfitter’s rifles and shotgun. I shot 18 rounds of 30-06, 1 round of 458 Lott and a little over a box of 25 12ga rounds.

My son and I recently returned from a very action packed Australian Safari Cull hunt, the total was 61 Animals for about 154 rounds, we missed very little they were just tough and big animals! I think our total included 4 sighting in rounds and about 20 rounds left in country, so actual shots fired was about 130 rounds. Camels were taking 3 rounds of .375 each and buffalo typically took 2-3 rounds of .416 or .375 each!

Most of you need to shoot more....
I spend most of my ammo on baboons at distance. Great fun!
You never shoot all you bring.
I always leave the extra behind.

The most rounds were on a combo trophy and cull hunt, plains game, white breasted crows, springhares and a few other varmints. Bad actors in the color variant herds are always on tap too so I go with 100 to 120 rounds split between pg and varmint calibers. Don't shoot anything common so always bring ammo home.

6 to sight in and 4 for 4 animals. I also went through a box of shotgun shells, but I bought those off the outfitter.

Recent trip to RSA
Zeroing 6 rounds of .458 Lott and 4 rounds of .375
Buffalo - 6 rounds of .458 Lott
Reedbuck 1 round of .375
Impala 1 round of .375
Zebra 1 round of .375
Kudu 1 round of .375
Total 20 rounds out of 80 that I packed.
The .458 I took 20 softs and 20 solids and the .375 I took 20 x 300g TSX and 20 x 250g TTSX.
Next time I would be happy just taking 300g TSX for the .375

Do not, do not run out of ammo on a hunt!
I once used 4 rounds to get an Impala down, was down to my last round and the bugger was still running.
Luckily made the last shot count otherwise it was knife time!

I recently returned from my first trip. I used a rental rifle and fired 10 rounds total.

1 .308 on the range to confirm zero.
1 .308 - Impala
3 .308 - Blue Wildebeest
3 .308 - Blesbuck
1 .308 - Waterbuck
1 .470NE - Water bottle

I'd never shot a double before so the outfitter let me take a shot with his .470 after we were finished hunting.

If strictly a trophy hunt you will need very little ammo unless something goes sideways with your scope. I've done some culling and that is where it creeps up to more than a box.
PG hunt I usually say take 60 rounds.

Did 72 animals on a cull hunt so upwards of 90 rounds fired - never bring ammo home - but did buy 200 rounds of the local ammo to bring back to try - PMP or PMC worked really well in the 7x64 Lakelander rifle I have.

NEVER KEPT COUNT BUT HAVE BEEN ON TWO SAFARIS WERE I ONLY SHOT ONCE. LEOPARD IN NAMIBIA WITH MY YOUNGEST, LIONESS IN SOUTH AFRICA WITH MY OLDEST. THEY EACH DID THE REST OF THE SHOOTNG.

Shot over 40 animals between hunting (15), culling (5) and verminting and night (20). About 50 shots.

Was anyone ever left out of ammo for any reason whatsoever?
Ammo lost on plane, rifle problems, ammo used for zeroing, or just too much shooting?
If you were left with no ammo, what did you do?

My first safari as a dumb kid I used all my 40 rounds. Combination of buck fever on my first African animal and an accident letting rifle fall off vehicle required some extra rounds at range. I used my dad’s rifle on final day because he was done. On a different safari my rifle arrived but ammo did not. Thankfully I was using a 375 H&H and they came up with some miscellaneous rounds to use. There is generally always a rifle rental with ammo available too.
