Most idiot gun purchase

View attachment 448339

Bought this “refurbished “ 1st Series, Winchester Model 1890 .22LR, made between 1890 - 1892 with broken cartridge lifter for $300. Guy’s young daughter was a heroin addict and he needed some money to pay for her rehab bill.

Put another $600 into her from a “half-ass” gunsmith company out of Missouri. Still doesn’t cycle correctly. Can’t find a good gunsmith to work on her in USA. Safe Queen now!

You mention that you are shooting 22 LR. The barrel is marked for long. Although the cases are the same the long shot a much lighter (thus shorter) bullet than the LR. I wonder if that would make a difference in the feeding?

Please see my response in Post #52 to this thread. Its a .22 Long. Mistyped. Thanks.

Lol. My worst was also a mauser, although a spanish one.
Bought a 7x57, paid decent money.
And it absolutely will not feed. Not like it's unreliable. It literally will not feed a single round.
I can normally fix stuff.
Made a Mosin feed 375 H&H. 500 Jeffery in a Savage 110. 500 S&W in a Siamese Mauser. None of these took more than minimal effort.
But getting that mauser to feed the original cartridge it was chambered for, from the factory?
Absolutely not.
Right now, that rifle is being used to hold up a corner of a broken shelf lol. Eventually, I'll make some bottom metal to take a detachable single stack mag from Wyatt's or AICS. And probably rechamber for something modern and suppressor friendly, just out of spite.
Have you tried a different follower

Back in 1981 when I was a poor flight student at Ft. Rucker, a buddy and I walked into a gunship in Dothan, AL and spied a gun cabinet with four Colt Sauer rifles. They were about $900 or one months pay. I tried to get him to go in with me and have one guy go in and buy two counting on multi-gun discount. He wouldn't go for it so I passed as well. Big regret!

Had a nice 1911 A1. A mix master, Colt slide, lower part by Peters Stahl. Nice fitting, tweaked by someone who knew what to do. Got it for a ridiculous low amount of money. Someone whom I let shoot it wanted it and bid a lot more than I had in it. At the same time I got an offer to buy a 1911 race gun, made by a dutch customizer with all the bells and whistles for the same amount of money that my old 1911 should bring. What could go wrong?
Well, the race gun was tweaked a little bit too much. Broke down after rarely 2000 rounds. "My" old 1911 still goes strong.
Lesson learned!

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
