Most Expensive Hunts Worldwide

Well, I suppose we can eliminate the auctions of tags. You can also eliminate anybody ever getting a North American 29 slam unless they win the lottery 4 times to get each of the sheep.

Suppose they change the system from 20 tags drawn at $100 each and 1 tag sold for $100,000 and instead made the draw fee $5100 per long horn sheep? I bet that would actually cut down the number of people entering the draw considerably and generate the same revenue but also generate more ire from the people who want to hunt one but don't want to pay $5k for the tag.

When demand exceeds supply, there is either a price control that creates a shortage and also has revenue inefficiencies of allocation, or there is a free market pricing system that creates displeasure among those who desire the item, but cannot afford the market price.

I agree 100%

I'd be more in favor of this system than the auction system.

If you feel that way, then think of how many people in Africa feel that way about us. And then think of how many anti-hunters feel like we are all just those same people you don't like here when we go to Africa to hunt.

Maximizing the revenue from the animals is what can bring the most revenue and value from them. I am not going to complain about the hunts being auctioned when there are still free or super cheap tags via lottery. Sadly, I am unlikely to win that draw lotto, but putting one more tag in the bucket is unlikely to change that.

I priced a Markhor hunt. There are three different species of Markhor that can be hunted in Pakistan and they are over $100,000 EACH and that is just the tag. They have only a few each year, like 4 I believe. Back in the day, some outfitters got in a pissing match and bidding war to get them. Little did they know at the time there was a clause in the Pakistani constitution that stated when a public asset is sold at auction, it can never again be sold for a lower price. They are now locked at that level or higher for perpetuity unless they amend that law.

That is the way all of Ethiopia's tags are. At least with the Mountain Nyala, you are looking primarily for that animal. Imagine the tags you would be buying for animals of opportunity, especially the ones that are not so common. You might pre-pay the $15,000 Mountain Nyala tag because that is what you are specifically going for, but are you going to pay $6000 for a tag for the Menelik's Bushbuck just in case you see one while you are out there?
Why not boycott Ethiopia and Pakistan. Or perhaps, give the politicians "Gifts", if you know what I mean.

I am not hunting Pakistan any time soon. I would love to get their Big 9 of Pakistan, but I am not going to pay what they are asking. I don't want to give politicians "gifts" because that kind of corruption just fuels wildlife crises that a responsible, ethical hunter should hopefully be opposed to.

Now, for Ethiopia, I would love to hunt there and will probably do so in the near future. I would just prefer them to change their quota system that you can get a refund on animals you didn't shoot but paid for a tag. I am OK with the pay up front idea, but not cool with the "sorry, you didn't even see a Menelik bushbuck, but thank you for the money. Better luck next time."

1. Black Rhino $350,000
2. Texas govenors tag Big Horn +-$300,000
3. White Rhino $ 120,000
4. Markhor $100,000
5. Argali Sheep $100,000

This is just off the top of my head and it would take some time to make an accurate top ten. Fun topic!

Are we talking trophy fees or all up hunt costs. ?

I'm pretty sure the most expensive hunts aren't advertised and don't need to.
If you go to the shows you will find some of these hunts. Not too hard to find but you know what they say...if you have to ask for the price you can’t afford it!

Id say Markhor at least lately, since they've just recently become more available in Pakistan are prolly $100k. Or Tiburon Big Horn.

The most expensive hunt, strictly mathematically speaking is the hunt where you dont get anything, but in course of action you get expenses.
If you divide total sum of expenses by the number of game hunted (0), result is indefinite.

A little lobbying for loopholes is what I mean. Like animals on private land are private property (Pakistan) or make the tags transferable(Ethiopia).
Pakistan has a houbara hunt tag for 100 birds in 10 days. How do the Saudi Sheiks do it? However, one sheik killed 2100 in 21 days. Some more doors will have to be opened to beat the arabs who want the houbara to themselves. Houbara gifts to the arabs to prevent them from not getting lower priced markhor. Might want the Trump boys to hunt there. Then more of money will go to conservation instead of being embezzled (a form of corruption). Who says the liberal media isn't useful? As for Ethiopia, Trump hunt there as well. Fail a bushbuck, less likely to the politicians Swiss bank account, more to conservation. Call me whack minded, but my plans are actually pro-hunter conservationist. P.S. Anybody in any rich Arab country, help make a houbara forever or something.

Respond: "I'm wondering what amount is to pay. Also, are the services worth the amount I am paying? I can afford a lot, but not low quality. You will have the best proof (who wants to be the next Walter Palmer? Or low scoring trophies) and the price for your hunt.
P.S. I have a list of top Taxidermists for the best trophies. Anybody want I'll give you a list.

Local specialties in anyway (race, location, tradition, species, color, any type of morphing etc) By race I bean like how defassa water bucks are slightly different in Uganda.

One of the top booking agents for these high priced hunts is The Hunting Consortium. They are among the best on service as well on these type of hunts. I hope that helps

These guys take off a huge burden off your shoulders. They can even book you hunts to Chad. Btw, It is owned by Corey Knowlton, who harvested a black rhino in Namibia.

4. Markhor $100,000
5. Argali Sheep $100,000

They cost more than that!!!

Corey Knowlton the guy who shot the black rhino is only a consultant, the owner is Rob Kern.

My question is what is the most expensive hunts worldwide?

A lot of my "non-hunting" buddies ask me that question quite often, but I'm not sure what is the correct answer. So I'm thinking of compiling a Top Ten list... Thinks that I want to consider is JUST the PRICE of the trophy - not the daily rates, guide fees etc. And the next thing is these species needs to be hunted in their "Natural Environment" if we need to consider the specie, and by this I mean the species can't be introduced like Oryx in Texas for example...

I would dearly appreciate your input on this matter!

Thanks

The most expensive one is that of a markhor in Pakistan. Ranging from 85,000-110,000 US dollars. A special permit has to be issued & signed by the Ministry head as the markhor is in the red list for endangered species by the WWF the Pakistan government allow the trophy of old or injured markhors and the revenue goes in protection and increasing the population of the healthy markhors. Another is that of the Himalayan snow leopard in Pakistan, which again ranges between 80,000-150,000 US dollars and a special permit which is even more strict than the markhors.

on thread deals and offers, just yesterday was and offer for elephant 87k... if I remember correctly. Do not underestimate expensiveness of African DG safari... (y)

Correct. I need to find it now. But I know I read a article last year. That the guy who got I believe one of like 7 markhor tags in Pakistan. Paid $225k for the hunt and tag. It was showcased on a show as well. And he had a entourage of like 3 trucks full of guys with AK 47.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
