More reasons to despise ticks

I have a couple of shirts, shoes, socks and shorts I spray with Permethrin every few weeks spring thru fall… my shooting range outfits. The place is crawling with ticks.
I like the Leatherman idea.

Being from coastal bend in Texas used to mosquitos and our ticks. But the South African Bont Tick caused me pain and misery in 2019. At least I had made it home before coming ill. I treat every thing now with permethrin very well before trips and check every night when I shower while on safari.

Have had occasional embedded ticks ever since I can remember- usually in mountains in summer. The big, flat red ones. Easy to find and remove.

Very few mosquitos and once in a while big issues with tsetse swarms but no ticks on any Africa trip.... until my last one to Zimbabwe! Got covered with embedded pepper ticks. I had dark colored, bull's eye marks around each bite for months. Really surprised/lucky I didn't get tick fever! Permethrin prevention for me from now on if ticks are out and about. :)

You need to get out more. I have had a half dozen on me here in Colorado, mainly in the spring time out hunting turkeys in the oak brush. That was before I learned about Permithin

Half a dozen? Rookie! ; ) Here in WI that could happen just mowing your lawn in the spring.

Our manager religiously takes out his leather man and uses to pliers to crush every tick he finds :E Big Grin: After experimenting using finger nails to plastic bottles to try and crush them...I reckon his plan is bout the best

Put them on a steel surface, smother in a pool of alcohol, ignite and enjoy. Watching them shrivel up through that clean, clear flame is very satisfying.

I have plenty of tick and mosquito experience being from Wisconsin , USA. I will Say the worst was the chigger bites from South Dakota. The volume of bites made it look like I was still wearing a belt and socks when completely naked. There were several hundred bites every where my clothes were snug to the body.

kept me awake with itchy pain for 6-7 nights! Drove to Wal Mart for itch cream at 2 in the morning because I wasn’t going to sleep anyway.

When the weather is warm, it’s hard to catch me without a can of 40% deet nearby. It works well for ticks and chiggers, around here at least.

Thanks anyway, but I'll stay here in the high desert of northern NV. We don't have those nasty things, just an occasional rattler in some places. I grew up in Maine and we had all kinds of flies, skeeters, no-see-ums. Never had ticks until recently, now the are all over and Lyme Disease is prevalent.
