Montana Rifle Company closed!

JD Outfitters of OKC has several in .458 Lott listed on GB, two of which are converts from .458 Win Mag. They seem reasonably priced. He has some more MRC rifles listed in lesser calibers including .338 Win Mag.

My beautiful CRF with curly wood! It has shot everything from pronghorn to eland. .350 Rigby Rimless Magnum

Resurrecting this thread for anyone interested - it appears Montana Rifle Company may be making a comeback...

I hope so, they're in Kalispell aren't they? I used to live close to there.

Maybe @Newboomer will be in line for a MRC in 404J when they open the doors.

Is it possible the market is saturated?
Or possibly a glut of once used safari rifles at low prices?
Indeed have been picking up CZ550 back here in Europe for cheapest prices .....once fired never seen Africa .....Something for the pension plan

Not a 404 J. A 9.3x62. If they build one anything like my 06 American Legend I'll be first in line. Probably won't shoot anything but paper but I really like that caliber.

Overall I really like their design. They (he, the original designer) combined Mauser and Win 70 features. MRC also provided a somewhat scarce product to a relatively small niche market- the big, heavy, long mag action needed for a few of the “oversized” cartridges. A couple of the best features of the Win 70 are incorporated in the MRC 1999- the trigger and safety. I just wish they would have incorporated one other of the post ‘68 Win 70 improvements… the anti-bind feature, a simple but effect improvement to the basic Mauser bolt action. I suppose it could still be under Winchester’s, now FN/Herstal, copyright protection… but I don’t know?? Also could be the M1999 designer didn’t think it important- IMO, a mistake. In any case hope they make a successful come back. Competition is a good thing. :)

Looking through my Safari Magazine from SCI and MRC is offering a Junction Rifle in 6.5CM with a donation value of $2K at the SCI convention.

I'd have to say they are back.

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
