Hi Gents/Ladies

My name is Michael (MikeTango ). A brief background of my history with firearms:
- Introduced to shooting and hunting since the age of 5 by my father.
- First deer I hunted was at the age of 7 (Springbok)
- Since then I have hunted around 12 different furred game animals for a total of 84 kills to date, all of which we process and make our household meat from.
- Father gave me my first rifle when I turned 18 (.270 Musgrave 24" sporter barrel)
- Started in the realm of reloading at the age of 21 (10 years ago) im the pursuite of better accuracy etc.
- After 8 years of shooting my standard 270 win Musgrave I re-barreld with a 28" 1:8 wist heavy varmit contour to be able to gain more velocity and stability from higher BC bullets for long range shooting.
- I compete in monthly local hunting orientated and long range competitions with my 1:8 wist 270 win to push the limits of the cartridge.
- I would like to share my experience throughout my testing and hunting with different loading techniques and result on a variety of bullets like 140 gr Berger, 145 gr ELDX, 140 gr TMK, 165 gr ABLR, 175 gr TMK.

Nah he freezes his nuts off in alaska....and goes to defrost them occasionally in Namibia....thinking about that he won't defrost them if it's winter there.....

Hi again Mike,

Living in blazing hot weather is not very pleasant for me.
With that, my favorite humorist, spike.t is correct, in that I do live in Alaska.
However as of this writing, none of my anatomy has frozen.
All my issue parts and pieces are still quite intact.

I do however, travel to Namibia as much as I can afford to go there.
Also, I advertise for Khomas Safaris, and I help clients book safaris to our new lodge (Aub Safari Lodge).

Regarding what ammunition I used for bagging animals in N. America with the .270 cartridge, I’ve had good fortune with 130 grain spitzers.
I no longer recall 100% all of the brands of projectiles I tried in the .270 but there were more than one or two that I tried.

Among these assorted 130 grainers, the original Winchester Silver Tip was the most fragile.
It worked well on blacktail deer (usually about Impala size) and caribou (approximately red hartebeest size) if I shot them broadside, just behind the shoulder or, in the neck from any angle.

I tried 150 grain Hornady spire points but they did not always expand well enough to hold my interest in them.
Seems to me those would’ve been better suited to larger, and / or tougher animals, such as elk, red stag, wild swine, and black bear.
That said, for shooting large animals I prefer large calibers.

I never was tempted to shoot anything larger than caribou with this cartridge.
And I sold my last .270 many years ago, along with most of my gun collection, in order to help pay for hunting trips.
However it is a very fine one for long shots at thin skinned game.
