Midway USA

My only problem with Midway is how easy I can order stuff from them................when it's in stock.

They even do a pretty good job of notifying me when something that was out of stock and it comes in.

Love the birthday cupon
Oh yeah, I forgot about the birthday coupon. Mines coming up. "Beware the Ides of March". LOL

It ain't about you, sparky. That's kind of an exalted opinion of yourself. Potterfield doesn't give a crap about you. He doesn't give a crap about me, either.

Graf's doesn't do small orders outside of the US, either. As nearly as I can tell, Powder Valley doesn't ship international at all.
It's not international if it's to my US address (and yes, I do still have an American mailing address and an American bank account where my American military disability is deposited every month). My mistake was trying to use my Canadian credit card the first time years ago. Good old boy Larry flagged me as a Canadian and won't sell me anything no matter where I want it mailed to or even if I try to use my US bank card. Nope, you're a Canadian and ain't selling you nothing nohow. Rumor has it he got his boob in the wringer with US govt several years ago selling stuff internationally that he shouldn't have. It's okay. No other vendors have refused my orders. I can shop elsewhere.

Don't order much anymore, but have order most everything in years past from Midway and don't recall ever having a issue. Used the same credit all of that time.

I had this happen with a different place where I made an order, but my card threw a flag so the order didn’t go through. When I talked to the credit card company they saw multiple attempts to charge the same amount. They say it was just an automatic attempt on the vendors part and not “real” charges. I told them to approve the charge and everything was OK. No multiple charges.
+1
Sometimes my cc goes through with no problems. Then again the company I'm ordering from will try 2 or 3 times to run the card to see if they may have erroneously entered incorrect information. Then my bank sends me an electronic robot text for me to confirm or deny the charge. Once I approve the charge and amount the card clears and my order is paid and I receive a confirmation from the company I'm ordering from.

Like you the first time this happened I checked my account, doing my mid month banking. Doing my end of month banking there was only the one charge all the multiple charges were cleared of my account.

Your ignorance regarding how the world works is breathtaking

Have you made the Canadian CC mistake with the other vendors? You may have gotten the same treatment if you had. Regardless of your citizenship, they have to be careful about selling items they know are destined cross border.

I recently had an issue with a Redding part. Tapered expander came in and it was a standard expander. They couldn’t replace it, I had bought the last one. The gal on phone gave me Redding phone number, and I returned the midway part without any issues. I went to look at something yesterday, and Midway’s website had a note that they were temporarily down, some sort of website issue. They were back up last night when I looked. It’s probably something to do
With their website and they will fix the charges. I have had multiple charges occur like this and in the end only one clears

Midway sells lots of stuff that is not gun parts or ammo. They won't sell it to me on line or over the phone. Other vendors typically don't accept my foreign credit card because my billing address isn't zip code and can't be processed. It's why I have an American bank account with a card (actually, I've always had an American account since age sixteen). But for most online purchases I have always prefered to pay with my account here. Usually, a phone call to the vendor sorts it out. If the shipping destination is to a US address they don't care ... except Midway. I know a Canadian gunsmith who's run into the same issue with Midway. He has to have his daughter in Wisconsin place the order and pay for it and then she must send it on to his US address. I do the same for items I absolutely cannot find anywhere else. Call my brother in Montana and he places the order. As I recall, so far that's only been some gunsmithing stuff which is not regulated at all. Besides being a hassle, the shipping cost is double. So I will avoid Midway if at all possible.

Yes, this is common with online purchases I have learned. Checking my ebanking I see a double charge for same item (especially international purchases) but turns out one is still for "pending" even after the charge has been cleared. It can take a day or two for pending duplicate to disappear. The reason has never been explained to me in a way I can understand. Is what it is.

My credit card was credited the 10 charges. I have not heard from Midway, and still not sure what happened.

I quit dealing with Midway ... or rather they refuse to deal with me. I live in Canada but still am US citizen with a US bank account and US mailing address. But Midway still won't sell me anything because I live in Canada. Screw em.

I am guessing it's either the law or Larry Porterfield has read some of your posts on AH. :ROFLMAO:

I love midway. They’re based only about a two hour drive from me, so the fast shipping coupled with the short trip makes for a short wait. It’s common for me to get things the next day. One time I ordered early in the morning and got it that afternoon, all on the cheapest shipping options.
Some places won’t sell to anything to me Illinois resident since the assault weapons ban.

BTW, and to be clear, I am no bashing Midway in any way. I had an issue and was wondering if anyone had a similar incident. Like I said above, I got my money back. I will still do business with them.

Midway is involved in all sorts of philanthropy related to hunting and shooting sports… they give tons of money to the scholastic shooting sports foundation for example, put a lot of money into NWTF, DSC, etc each year..

Potterfield is an avid hunter (he hunted at the same place we did in Argentina a few years back… is well documented hunting Africa, Europe, and other places), and by every account of every person I have known that has spent any time with him, a very gracious and kind person…

I’m going to guess any dual citizenship problem related to an American with an American address that also happens to have a Canadian address would be easily resolved with a couple of phone calls…

If resolution isn’t worth that level of effort… I’m pretty sure Midway isn’t noticing the lack of business or too concerned with it…

I typically wait until they have their “free shipping” week going on, and then also typically wait until whatever it is I want from them is on sale (I can usually find most things a little cheaper, other places)… but I still order from them at least 2-3 times a year.. and will continue to support them as a business…

I’ve always had good luck with Midway, they’re my preferred online seller for this stuff.

International sales are not simple. My company does not do it either. It’s nothing personal towards anyone, it’s just a pain and cuts into margins.

- Can your computer system handle international transactions?

- Are you violating your sellers agreement by selling into a country where another entity may have the distribution rights? Let’s say Leica awards XYZ company rights to distribute in Canada; they probably don’t want everyone and their mother shipping Leica in from other markets.

- While you may be compliant with Federal law knowing local laws internationally is very challenging. What is the cost of setting up international compliance? I can tell you it’s a lot.

- Shipping is slow, more expensive, and you have to be customs compliant, again shaving your margins.

- Customer service burden is always higher. Slow shipping, slow customs, frequency of lost parcels, added handling…

- Instances of fraud are much higher

For most companies it just isn’t worth losing money for a small volume of sales. I am certain Larry Potterfield has no vendetta against anyone and probably has no idea this is a thing. Midway is a business, we should expect them to make good business decisions. It would seem reasonable to ship to US addresses paid by US bank accounts by US citizens regardless of where they live, but that’s probably some lower level CS person making the best decision they can.

never a glitch with midway. have ordered bullets for .458, .400 and .375 when in stock. Also brass. Lots of other parts too. I look at them for hard to find things first. Always a smooth transaction, and nice communications.

It is not easily resolved with a couple of phone calls. I tried that as did my gunsmith buddy. In fact, if you are Canadian do NOT phone and tell them that or you are flagged forever. Been there. Phone calls work fine with other vendors.

Here's the thing: I get a US card with US billing and shipping address and the purchase goes through their online purchase system just fine. Then a few days later I get an email saying the transaction was canceled. I called them up. "Oh, we know your Canadian because you tried to use a Canadian card years ago." So they're keeping track?

I'm sure Midway does not care about losing our business. And I'm not hesitant to tell everyone I don't care for their attitude.

While I've not faced that specific issue, my recent midway experience was them selling "416 Taylor" dies through Amazon, and they delivered me 6.5-300WBY dies instead which I'm pretty sour about.
I've ordered through Midway a great deal and their service has always been excellent.

However... your point about dies is the only area where I've had issues with Midway. In the past on more than one occasion I've gotten a gently opened box correctly labeled for the die set I ordered, and inside the box were dies for another caliber - often (badly) used. I suspect another person either mistakenly returned the wrong dies, or more likely intentionally returned an old unwanted die and kept the new one, counting on Midway not noticing the substitution. Though eventually this got sorted out, the fact that it happened more than once has made me seek out other sources for dies.

Oh, and then there was the time they Midway sent me a $500 pair of Kenetrek boots that I never ordered and was never charged for... Since I had never ordered the boots, customer service initially said I had to pay for the return shipping... Though they did laugh when I used the term "honesty tax" and gave me store credit for the shipping cost.
