Daryl is a fortunate man. You need to go buy a lottery ticket soon! Not to take anything away from your friend's, but that three by three is spectacular! Congratulations!

There was a 4x4 that would have likely scored higher, but that 3x3 was too amazing to pass up. Glad I waited.

For the record, I would have been happy with this buck if it had never been scored. Although, my taxidermist will likely want to score it too.
@NIGHTHAWK - agree, regardless of the score that rack will NOT change in size….No bigger and No smaller, so if you are Happy with it (and most would be Very happy) who cares about the score?? It is a nice buck by any standards. Also, B&C will Not recognize the score because it was taken in a fenced area (although SCI would). Would getting that buck in any record book make him any “better”? Would you be less thrilled with him if he doesn’t get in some book? Your hunt, the “shot”, the experience and memory will all be there——-regardless of score. Congratulations

Your deer demonstrate the reality of a 180”+ mule deer. Many want a 200” but a true 180” 190” mule deer is a trophy. And hard to come by.

It reminds me of the saying. “ everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”.

Everyone says they want a 200 inch Mule Deer until they see 180 inch Mule deer and then are plenty happy to shoot it. Me included.
Congrats again on a beast of a deer.

Observation scoring is difficult at best. My 19 year old guide was adamant about getting back to this 3 pointer and stated 180” plus. We didn’t know it would be 30” wide. The real surprise was 30 1/2” wide. I’ll hunt more Mule deer, but not likely to best this 3 pointer with another 3 pointer…

Agreed, my best mulie is a 170 buck and I had no hesitation in taking him. This buck is in another class altogether.

I am very curious about the high fence comments. I had no idea that there were high fence mulie hunts. Having seen these rascals jump, I have to admit that I am skeptical that this is even possible within practical limits?

My best just topped 170” but is 30” wide and was impressive to me while on the hoof. He had average mass and weak fronts, Average backs

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
