The USS Constitution (Old Iron Sides) fires its cannon last night in the Boston Harbor with the Bunker Memorial in the background…

Happy Memorial Day everyone!!

To absent comrades.

I am the caretaker of a smallish church / family cemetery and it is sad that most people have no clue what Memorial Day is about. Most think it is to remember all passed loved ones (which there is nothing wrong with that), when in fact it is to remember our fallen and hopefully not forgotten soldiers, heroes and military.

A lot of blood was shed for this country.

How many times must we veterans remind everyone there is nothing happy about Memorial Day. It should be a somber day of remembrance and thanks.

A number of years ago I was on a boat alongside the Constitution on its annual sail out on July 4. What a magnificent vessel.

It was one of the most moving events of my life. And I'm a freakin' Canadian.

In Flanders Fields

By John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I love that ship. As of now, it’s the only active USN vessel to have sunk an enemy combatant.

Happy Memorial Day everyone.

Memorial Day provokes the imagination, pondering what went through the minds of those like Albert Munro, who parked his Higgins boat at Guadalcanal so that it blocked Japanese machine gun fire while the other Higgins boats evacuated an entire battalion. The short easy answer is that he made the sacrifice for his fellow soldiers. The longer answer is that we all are first caused to ponder life and our place in it, and most of all, what we value so highly that we willingly lay down our lives. When a man then chooses to stand in the gap, we call them our heroes.

We owe those heroes more than we can repay. But...we can choose to repay them by making sure that the values--and I would claim, Founding values are kept operant and enshrined such that their sacrifice was not made in vain. As in the poem, Flander's Field, we must keep faith with them, and bear the torch passed to us.

I wonder what some of those soldiers would say if they could be resurrected, and pass judgement on our society in 2025? Would they say, "this woke, DEI, purple dyed, gayed up geed up, Hamas demonstrating, human trafficking, corrupt mess is NOT what I laid down my life for? I feel a weight of responsibility to them, and don't plan to shame their loss. RIP fallen heroes, and God's blessing on their families.

Yeah....its sad that the USS Constitution is docked in a city now so liberal it's amazing the ship isn't vandalized or destroyed.

To absent Comrades, God bless them for their ultimate sacrifice!

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
