Bragging time: I have just scored this lovely Westley Richards Mauser in .275 HV (7x57mm). My guess is that it was made sometime in the early 20th century, but best thing of all, it's been relined in England during its working life, thus has a mirror bore and is an absolute tack-driver. 25" barrel, correct sling eyes, super-optimistic ladder sight (besides the multiple express leaves), flag safety, the works.

As much as I love a project, I probably love even more a rifle like this--a "shake and bake" that will digest factory loads as well as reloads without too much trial and error. All it needs now is a nice Trader Keith thong sling and a trip to Africa!

Very nice Tom. Congrats. They are very interesting rifles. I look forward to hearing more about yours and maybe a hunt report in the future.

I don't know if you have a factory letter yet but here is how my Rigby letters to give you a sense of it.

She's a beaut Clark!

Congrats on the new addition!

Tom that is a nice acquisition. I bet you smile every time you send a round down the barrel:cool:

Heartiest congratulations.

The 1949 and 1953 Westley Richards catalogs list a "7mm Hi-Velocity" offering for their magazine rifles. I wonder if this is actually a .275 Rigby Hi-Velocity. It's definitely not a 7x57mm Mauser.

That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
