Mauser Oberndorf 9.3x62

Now that's a great idea! What kind of wood is it?

It is a Turkish Walnut, picked it for the density, grain and darkness of the wood.

Nice to see the work is finally getting started! I'm pretty sure it will come out looking awesome with all the plans you have for it! Have you decided on what engraving you want on it yet?

@Timt I have kind of decided on the engraving to be done, just a problem finding a person one can trust and that does not have a 2 year lead time!

@Witold Krzyżanowski - I have been busy booking hunts, building rifles and keeping out of trouble, the last bit is not going so well:) I have had my hands full with driven hunts in SA and off course keeping the Wild Boar population down here in Sweden. Also a full time job training the dogs,I have a champion in the making and one more on the way. Other than that we have been beating some pheasants so they will fly high, 550-600 birds per day is not a joke:confused:
You had a very busy schedule.
All the best.
Witold

Just a update in case folks think I have dropped the project! Had a few delays with the Gsmith moving shop and getting settled, but he is now focusing on my rifle. Inletting is done by hand, so is everything else, it takes time and incredable skill to get it perfect. No floating or bedding, it is a good and proper old school tight fit no gaps build. Should take another month or two to complete the stock, then oiling it and sending the metal off to be worked over. Figure it will take another year before its done the way I want it. Some photos of the inletting.

Looks like it's coming along quite nicely.

Has this project been progressed or finished?

No worries. Good luck and keep us posted please.

Stopped by the Gunsmith today to drop off more work and check on the status of my 9,3. Getting there now and starting to look like a rifle. Amazing how much better a custom built to fit stock feels on a rifle. Couple more months and she will be at home

That's going to be a stunner!

Absolutely beautiful, well worth the wait. Cant wait to see the finished product.

I really want to see this one updated. That looks like it will be a very proper 9.3x62 ready for safari
