Mauser 6.5 mm Oberndorf

I have a Mauser 6.5 mm 24 inch barrel Sporting bolt action rifle. Stamped Waffenfabrik Mauser - Oberndorf with Serial Number 96012. Two Triggers. 6.5 N stamped on barrel with PORT. stamped directly above. British Proof Marks (purchased in Kenya early 1950's).
Does any body know Year of Manufacture & cartridge dimensions for this rifle?

Your Oberndorf was manufactured between 1926 and 1927. You have the pre-1922 stamp. The Oberndorf stamp changed in 1922, but it was not unknown for post-1922 rifles to have the pre-1922 stamp.

its a 6.5x58 Portuguese pretty rare caliber for an Oberndorf some are marked imported by Charles heyer & co I had a type A Oberndorf years ago thats at the bottom in this pic , I know where there are 12 boxes of Kynoch but I dont think the owner will export to England

If it has British proof marks, Birmingham or London. It may be possible to get the information from the proof house as to what caliber it is.
I have a German Mauser chambered in 6,5x55. There’s a lot of old 6,5 calibers around. 6,5x54, 6,5x68 etc.

If the time line estimate is right it has a strong possibility of being a 6.5x57, a picture of the stamps on the barrel would help, will need to see the bottom of the barrel

its a 6.5 x 58 Portuguese they stamp PORT to shorten it ,

The proof marks were crown over B and U up until around 1924 with the crown over G added around 1924 and crown over N in the late 1930s. This fits nicely with your Oberndorf manufactured in 1926/1927.

Thanks for the Proof Marks data - as you say, good confirmation for 1926/27. On the Left Hand side of the Action there is a rectangle block with a rear screw. Stamped on the front of the block is the numeral 12. Stamped on the Reverse of the 200 yard Leaf Sight is the numeral 012.
Any idea what these numerals relate to?
This Mauser is a very elegant rifle - recently left to me in a Will from a family who lived in Kenya early 1950's where it was purchased. I am still trying to locate the original Bolt, which the family did have when the rifle came to the UK from Australia in 1995

hopefully they have the bolt as it will be serial numbered on the shoulder and the shroud and safety , this is definetly a cal. 6.5x58 Portuguese mauser , looks to be a type B what I posted in my pic is the same Oberndorf commercial mauser but in a type A , some differences are express sights and horn tip make it a type A and usually single stage trigger ,, type B semi schnabel forend without checkering single style rear sight ,,

Yes, has the Schnabel (bird's beak) forend and no forend checkering so is Type B - thanks for all the info
