I definitely did not care for magazine extending below the stock. Is that perhaps 4+1 extended version?

It sounds like there is a 3+1 magazine that is somewhat flush with the bottom metal and an extended 5+1 unit available.

Personally, I don't really care for the single stack magazine. I would have liked to see a double stack or rotary, but I'm sure it's a cost saving measure.

I wonder if I comes with the scope rail or if one has to buy that separately.

5+1 and 3+1 ,



Single stacks work well , just look on the 200 Str match rifle magazines , but they will get long if they later make a driven hunt model of magazine .

Call me uncivilized but I'm not jiving with new cocking style rifles like most straight pulls. It's what's kept me from buying the 505. I much prefer Steyrs roller tang.

What does rugby have to do with hunting? A line of optics perhaps?

I saw the reference to rugby also. The idea reminds me of the movie where a sniper got into a football game. I don't remember the name, but the concept was scary. I can't guess what Mauser was thinking.

My 5 cents: I think it's a M03/M12 replacement.

A traditional push feed like a M12 but a bit more upscale with more steel parts. Since the introduction of the M18 and demise of the M03, the M12 has made little sense as the M98 is really quite premium and then two entry level models which left a huge gap for Sako to gobble up with the 85/90. The M25 will probably be similar in market positioning to a Sako 90 but along the traditional Mauser lineage.

According to Mauser, it's a new straight pull action and is everything for the hunter and, "..everything except a status symbol."

As much as I love the 98, I can't get too excited about any of the newer Mauser rifles.

I don’t do not speak French but google does. Neat marketing concept.

This Mauser’s second go at a straight pull rifle. I believe the first being the M96 made in 1996.

The 66 is very cool, with the telescoping action. Dirt and debris would easily find itself inside while open, though. The 77 is a miss. Needs a significant bolt handle pull to get it unlatched and moving. Also have to remove the handle just to slide out the bolt for bore cleaning. The 77’s wood is pretty soft and cheap, I think. As for the M03, it’s been my experience that if your bolt body is blued, it’s not as smooth as the unblued, which isn’t great itself. The entire trapezoidal cross section rides inside the receiver, compared to more traditional channels, etc in a bolt body.

I guess my drivel is pointing toward not being particularly impressed with any of the Mauser straight pull or takedown designs from the past. I really hope it’s something better than those. The Blaser/Mauser guys here at SCI are rocks. Soon see.

Apparently the “rocks” description wasn’t clear to someone. It means they’re solid, professional and unwavering. It’s a compliment in describing someone in the military. We had a fun little exchange with them ahead of the 28th, as we were fishing for more info. They were unwavering, for sure. Always enjoy seeing their displays. I certainly have enough of their products to be called a fan, I guess.

I agree. I would rather spend the same money to add a new rifle barrel to my M03 than aquire a new M25.
I wonder if Mauser would be receptive to a group order for new M03 barrels?!
