We finally made it back after a great trip from the beaches to the forest. Bwana was right, Ivan was a most gracious host form the pick up at airport to drop off. After the 28 hours of traveling we took it easy on the beach and touring the island the first couple days. Traffic on the island is horrendous. We stayed at the Sugar Beach Resort which is on the east side of the island . That entire side of the island is protected by a coral reef so the sand on the beach is quite course but the water is stunning.

The area Ivan hunting area were absolutely gorgeous. The mountains and thick forest looks like something out of Jurassic Park.

Hunting was done primarily on foot due to the thickness of the hunting area. We walked over 10 miles the first day and 11 miles on the second day. The Rusa were in full rut, it was an awesome experience listening to them roar. The number of Rusa on this property were in the excess of 3000. I had seen some good Rusa throughout the day but was trying to hold out for the exceptional one.

Just before dark on the first day I harvested my first Rusa . Very nice and heavy horn stag.

Since I had another hunting day I figured we would keep hunting and see if we could do even better. We saw a lot of Stags on the second day but nothing tickled my fancy. I did harvest hog right a last light .

. The overall trip was stunning. If you get the chance to hunt Mauritius Island I highly recommend it. I didn't stay there at the hunting area but there is a fabulous lodge and rooms on site if one did not care to stay at a beach, it has all the amenities as the resort .

Knowing what I know now the thing to do would be stay at the hunting area for the hunt then book a few days at the resort. That would save you some travel time to the hunting area before and after the hunt .

Was this at Le Chasseur Mauricien?

Did you bring your own rifle?

Hello, My wife and I hunted with Marius 2 years ago. He fit us into his schedule after a different outfitter "bailed" on us. He was always very good with communications and although we didn't end up meeting him personally, he called us multiple times during our hunt to make sure things were going well. We were very happy with him.

Reach out to the guys at Epic Outdoors.

They will steer you right for landowner tags and outfitters that have them.

I have held a membership with them for years and they are an invaluable resource.

Way better that asking random people on the internet...WAY better

Skydiver386,

Did you ever find your 30-06 CZ550? I own a fairly solid conditioned one, if you wanted to talk.
