Mark Sullivan the Expose’

I find it odd that we have a thread going about people shooting to far and how that’s not ethical, but on the other hand everyone is crying about MS shooting animals up close and personal.

I don’t know maybe we should ban shooting buffalo with small bore 375 H&H at 100 plus yards? Is that ethical?

What about the telescopic scopes everyone talks about needing because of aging eyes. Maybe if your eyesight is that bad you shouldn’t be hunting at all.

What about the bow hunter that shoots a whitetail from a stand and waits 30 plus minutes for the deer to die? That’s no quick painless death.

Or how about the jack leg elephant bow hunter? Really!

Don’t think many critics have said anything negative about getting up close and personal..

Well I’m not the outfitter in this situation. Ha

Also can’t afford TZ haha. If I could or were I to be able to in the future I would choose a serious and professional operator to hunt with. You know, a real PH ;)
@Wishfulthinker580 - Some Real PH’s want a Real Client — you’ve got to Qualify

No one criticizes getting in close on the first shot. The criticism is the attempt to instigate a charge. The criticism is also not taking the first ethical shot to put down wounded game. Getting in close to instigate a charge isn’t showing some kind of respect to the animal it’s just satisfying someone’s ego.

The only thing I find odd (actually really sad) is the lack of ethics continually on display here among many members. Ethics and holding a standard are important. Letting everyone do whatever they want led to men in women’s sports and all the other ridiculous social issues we currently have.

Unless I have missed something, I don’t think any of his critics have ever met him or spoken to him. You???
Maybe you should read the thread again. Specifically his comments to a member on hunting bear.

Ample video evidence and the man’s own words are enough to indict him. As has been noted, salesmen are pretty awesome people when they’re trying to sell you something….

Gee, I though I was really clear about my opinion of Mark Sullivan and other self promoting personalities. Refering to him as the “Kim Kardashian” of PH’s" should provide an answer.

I did not mention Sullivan's requirement to hunt with a large double rifle. Is he paying for the hunt?

If you can't figure out my answer with all my reasoning behind it will all my above, frankly, the only way I'd hunt with him and his ego would be if YOU pay for it. Any more silly questions?
I can tell you for a fact that this is complete BS. I talked to Mark about a hunt in around 2002 and he suggested a 375 with solids. He has never required anyone to hunt with a double rifle as far as I know. Although I know his style rubs people the wrong way, I can say he’s a very personable guy and I think you’d have a ball hunting with him.

@375Fox - if you spin this thread to Now include “Men in Women’s Sports” it’s gonna get Real interesting ……don’t you think its lively enough ?

@TOBY458 I agree with You and think “I’d have a ball hunting with him”….just hope I’d have the “balls” to do it.

It’s the same principle to me. Accept a little bit of BS, then push acceptable to a new level, then accept a little more BS. 10 years later you wonder how it got to that point. Ethics mean something. The ethical standard seems to be eroding in many parts of hunting to me. Mark Sullivan is old news and his ideas mostly condemned, but I think allowing any support for his ideas is wrong.

@375Fox - You need to RELOAD, Your Humor Rifle is completely out of Ammo… Nobody missed Your point (or mine), it’s either disagreement, or some open debate.
I like this forum because of all the differing opinions, some strongly worded, some balanced, some humorous —- it’s all here to be enjoyed.

I can tell you this if you call my friend a salesman again we are on fighting terms! Clean your act up! Stop the name calling and disparaging of people in the industry!!!

His comments on Bear are the same as Buffalo! This should lead you to believe he is a man of principal whether you like what he says or not!

If he is such old news why have I gotten PM’s inquiring if he is still offer hunts because they are interested!

We get you don’t like him even though you don’t now him?!?! Now why don’t you just leave it alone and we all can go back to being friends yes?

Outfitters are salesmen are they not? Trying to sell their services and an experience. If they’re not a salesman then they’re in the wrong business. I’m not disparaging “people” in the industry. Right now I’m stating my OPINION on MS. Might I suggest you think a bit more before posting a thread about a controversial figure like him and the fact that there will undoubtedly be negative opinions expressed..

I tell you what. If they ever bring the DSC convention back to Dallas and you come to it I’ll buy you a beer and we’ll see if we’re still on fighting terms over something I said about your “friend”.

Also, from the tone of your post, the fact that this is Saturday night and the posts you’ve shared in the whisky thread it may be best to take a hiatus from posting any more this evening.

Love the idea of shooting animals up close and giving them a chance as a hunter. But to sell this hunt and what appears to me to be the PH consistently shooting the animal is not my idea of a hunt I would pay for. To each their own but I want to be able to hunt my own animal

You obviously did this as a benefit to him. I find his ideas offensive including some of the words he chose in your video. Admire him if you like. He built a public persona and can be judged on it. I won’t understand what draws people to hunt with a PH that is about himself and instigates dangerous situations.

One very simple question, does or has Mark Sullivan intentionally wounded buffalo and then pushed them to provoke a charge? If the answer is yes to this question, there is no set of ethics you can point to that would condone his actions. If the answer is no, then all we have is a style issue. I have my opinion, but I will leave it at that.

If you’d like me to have a different opinion on him have him talk 30 minutes about conservation instead of the kill. I can respect some of his achievements and skills but I find his ethics highly questionable.
