I saw an earlier post about wanting to buy double rifles and big bore guns and I thought I'd try my own luck with an all-call...But for left hand bolt guns this time. Looking for something in .416 or .450 Rigby or larger, thats affordable (if thats possible these days), so lets say less than $7K. I used to have a .458 WinMag but felt it was underpowered and sold her (sorry @Riflecrank ).

I don’t have anything for sale, but if a 458 win mag is underpowered, is a 416 or 450 Rigby going to do that much more?

As a Lefty I understand this is a tough one once you get larger than 375 H&H. I have seen one left-handed 416 Remington, in a pawn shop of all places, so they exist. After that it's probably a custom job, and not cheap.
Good luck.

Good luck to You.

I have a custom M70 Lefty in 416 Rem Mag I have been toying with selling. May not be big enough for you but I can send you pictures later tonight if its something you want to look at.

Jim Kobe did the metal work and Al Lind did the stock.

Also have almost a duplicate rifle in 416 RUM (375 RUM necked up)

I know I can't afford it but could you send pics. I like to drool over left handed guns i can't afford. It's a hobby.

Sounds good, send pics of both, pictures are always appreciated. Whats the increase in performance for the 416 RUM vs 416 Rem Mag?

I would consider it a personal favor if you would buy this left-handed 404 Jeffery at auction in a few weeks. It would protect me from using dubious logic to rationalize a reason to buy it myself. My 458 WM is definitely all I need but whenever I see certain large caliber left-handed rifles, my willpower starts to fade a bit. ;)

Yeah I saw that one. I was thinking of bidding, It's certainly nicer than the old 458 Win Mag I sold off; but not holding out any hope of winning it. I've lost several auctions recently to folks getting into bidding wars. And I'm not about to pay 10+ grand for something. Or in the case of that recent .577 T-Rex...$16K. I think I'll probably end up taking @BeeMaa advice and buy a Blaser R8 in .500 Jeffery. I mean they have left hand stocks, and they come in Green, my favorite color. Still trying to find one less than $10K though, maybe find a way to $8K.

As a long-suffering left-handed shooter, the topic of trying to get exactly what my heart wants (logic be damned!) is one of my favorite quests. I've spent a lot of time looking for obscure left-handed unicorns. Unlike you, I found the 458 Win Mag to be more than sufficient for my intended needs. In one of your previous posts, I had mentioned the 404 Jeffery above (but forgot it was you who started the 50 cal thread) & the possibility of finder a larger LH Weatherby. So here's some additional thoughts.

Certain chamberings with large African cases can have challenges when trying to rebarrel smaller left-handed rifles to feed the cartridges properly. You either have to go custom or possibly pay a gunsmith a lot of money to get them to work well. So I was always a bit leery of chamberings with .585+ bolt faces because I worried I might not have the financial resources to end up with the rifle I really wanted. The $10k Heym in 416 Rigby that sold in the Classifieds recently is about as good as it gets sometimes. Occasionally, I'll see the rare left-handed 416 Rigby go for an "affordable" $8,625 like the one below but once you add a buyer's premium, tax & other fees, you're over the $10k threshold pretty quick.

A few years back this Dumoulin 416 Rigby sold for $6,600 including the buyer's premium but that's a rare instance of a nice LH rifle going for a good price. You have to be really patient to find one of these.

I like my LH Winchester M70 Safari Express in 375 H&H a lot. It's a great rifle for less than $2k. If I wanted to upsize it, I might get Pac-Nor to make me a .475 barrel chambered in 470 Capstick. If I didn't reload, I can still buy ammo for it that produces some impressive energy. I'm assuming the recoil would be significant as well. I'm sure you could accomplish the same thing with a CZ, Zastava, Heym SR20G, etc.

There's a pair of them coming up for auction this weekend (Rifle #1 & Rifle #2) that could possibly be used as a donor to base an affordable larger build off of.

There's a LH Dakota 76 in 450 Dakota available for $7,500. Parkwest will build you a left-handed rifle but for $8k you can only get it as big as the 404 Jeffery or Dakota. In order to get the larger calibers you mentioned you have to spend $12k & get the Dark Continent model. The proprietary Dakota chamberings are impressive but the lack of brass & ammo is a concern.

As I'm sure you well know, creating left-handed, magnum-action, CRF rifles with big bolt faces while not breaking the bank can be difficult. But I never want to discourage anyone from tilting at this particular windmill.

@odonata
Thanks for the info. I saw those two Model 70s for auction this weekend, but I wont hold out hope. I've seen some of those in good condition go for 2400-2800 lately, and some others are listed for $3K. I think if my donor action is starting at that much, the build will easily be in the $10K
ange. We'll see what they go for. Also, I'll call them tomorrow, but I'm 99% sure that .450 Rigby already sold and they never bothered to update their webpage. See the link below.

I haven’t finished the metal work on either. 416 Rem on top…416 RUM on bottom.

Both started as LH Model 70 Classics. Both Krieger barrels…Rem has Williams bottom metal annd Duane Wiebe’s XRM mag box and RUM has Sunny Hill and the barrel is threaded for a brake for load development and then unscrewed with thread protector for hunting.

The top stock was a blank from Luxus that Al Lind built for my 375 H&H…I put it in a synthetic Echols legend and built the 416 Rem on this one.

The RUM could nip on the heels of the WBY with a 400gr pushing 2600 if you really felt the need or be equivalent to the 416 Rigby on standard magnum action which is much easier and generally cheaper for a lefty.

@Big_Easy - you’ll lose 3 teeth vs 2

I built the 416 RUM specifically to go on a brown bear hunt in Alaska next year which fell through for various reasons. I was going to get another Legend stock from Darcy but that proved to be problematic so I just put it in the wood stock I had (Long interesting story behind this stock).

I built it with the 350gr Barnes TTSX in mind and with RL17 2800fps in a 3.6" mag box is very realistic and I know some that have pushed them to 2900fps with longer OAL (duplicates 416 WBY for the sadists). At 2800fps sighted in 1.85" high at 100 its dead on at 200 and drops less than 8" to 300, and 23" at 400. Pretty much mimics the trajectory of a 30-06 loaded with a high BC 180gr bullet and generates over 6k lbs of energy at muzzle. The 375 RUM case got a bum wrap mainly because it was only chambered in 7.5lb Rem 700 push feeds with 13.5" LOP that kicked the snot out of people. Built on a 9-10lb CRF by someone that can make them feed they are great rifles.
