So I believe I did this thread two years ago and had a positive response so I’ll try it again. I did not make the show last year so there were no 2024 pics but in short synopsis the Texas Taxidermy Convention and competition might be the largest taxidermy show in the United States. It arguably is the most competitive, especially in the Whitetail division. They’re multiple levels to enter masters, professional youth and amateur. Competitors are competing against a set and standard score sheet. There could be multiple blues, multiple red, multiple whites and green honorable mention; however, a very small percentage of overall entries will be able to obtain a blue ribbon score. Additionally, within the blue ribbon is a winners ribbon which is 94 points or higher. The single highest score in any category will be declared Best of that section. There will be Peoples Choice voting for various categories: gameheads, dear, large life-size, small life-size, fish, birds and original art. Lastly, there will be a few special awards from different suppliers based on best mount using someone products, etc..

Enteries are all due in today by 2 pm DST. There will be a 1 hr open door for People Choice voting tonight at 9 am, but ribbons won’t be posted until Sat am 10:30. Special awards will be announced at the Sat evening banquet. I did see a few good pieces coming in yesterday.

Stayed tuned.

Looking forward to pictures. I haven’t competed in 15 ish years-family, time, work etc. But maybe next year I’ll come down and see how I can do against the Texas bird weirdos. Good luck Sir!

That’s my buddy from Austria. He didnt make it over this year as he just had a baby boy 2 months ago.

Well that's great!!
I was wondering if the ghost of Christmas past (AKA Dennis Harris) would be judging.
Have a great show and thanks for the pictures!
I don’t think he’d show up down here but I did see he was a judge at a Michigan show 2 yrs ago.

Love the wildebeest

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
