Limpopo Buffalo

The “do they have names” was a good post. I chuckled.
Oh I will freely admit it was funny, though grossly inappropriate.

You might consider looking at the likes on gizmos recent posts as well. It’s also the same several individuals. I wrote what I think if someone wants to like them it’s their choice, but this becomes a smaller conversation the more unprofessional and repetitive it becomes.
That I agree with.

Hard to tell where the majority lies. Most people are probably just staying out of it.

For some of us, the English language is not enough to argue. This also applies to me as I have a clear opinion on the topic and can for this reason understand the posts of some members very well. Unfortunately, I cannot answer correctly, but that would perhaps intensify the discussion. Better not !

We have already had similar discussions at European hunting Forums and due to the cultural hunting environment, the majority of the members expressed themselves against a lot of practices, but some of them regularly go to Namibia to hunt in Game Ranches, which is a contradiction. It remains a topic that is being discussed very controversially around the world, but there are not by European such violent disputes as here because no one has to defend a business.

By the way, shooting game in enclosure of various dimensions are also available in our countries for avid trophy collectors, especially when it comes to red deers. However, the topic is treated very discreetly, not made public because it is not welcome in traditional hunting circles.

Oh come on. Grossly inappropriate? Judging by the 8 pages of discussion I would suggest it made a very good point in a light hearted manner. The only folks up in arms seem to be those who want zero discussion of what constitutes a quality hunt for a buffalo. I think you would even agree all options in South Africa or Texas are not equal. But somehow opening that situation to discussion should be taboo? I would argue free discussion by hunters not subject to censorship by operators is one of the great attributes of this site. I also think calling experienced fellow hunters names because they suggest due diligence in contracting that first hunt helps neither prospective clients nor quality game ranching operations. Were I the one surfacing the topic, my immediate question would be what are some of these people afraid of? I will note again, I published in a fairly well regarded African hunting publication my very positive experiences in hunting a buffalo bull in South Africa. But that bull had neither a publicity photo nor a name. I am not sure how that makes me or anyone in this discussion an elitist.

Let me just say it’s been fun. Any of you snobby elitists or any of you great unwashed are welcome at my bar anytime. I got Blanton’s and Whistle Pig Rye and Kentucky Owl. Also got Jack Daniel’s and Jim Beam for you rubes.

Of course it’s Dry January right now

Again I think everyone misses the point. I'm all for open discussion and will gladly and gratefully accept advice. The problem I have is that the comment had nothing to do with the OP's question and was just merely a cheap shot at hunting in RSA as well as an outfitter no one knows who it is or under what circumstances the hunt is conducted on. For all we know it could be a jillion free range acres and he happened to see them at the salt lick driving by near the lodge. Probably not but you don't know and people assume a lot. The guy asked a very specific question and got slammed within 4 posts. It went south from there and it was two pages of bashing everything RSA before I ever said a word. Had the topic been what is everyone's opinion on buffalo hunting in RSA, lett'r rip taterchip but it wasn't.
Unfortunately this is a constant any time anyone asks about anything in RSA or posts pictures of anything. It has gotten old and a lot of folks, myself included, are sick of it.
Ya I will admit I have been very disrespectful to certain members, I'm not condoning it but I sure as hell am not putting up with anyone's crap. There is one obvious person that the two of us are oil and water. I could care less if he gets his panties in a wad and until he starts to show respect he will receive none in return.
Every stinking conversation that comes up, anyone who dares to disagree with many of the views you express and certainly a lot of the views a few others are very vocal and disrespectful. It is ridiculous, demonizing people because you don't like the way they do something as a mere matter of personal preference. And intended or not comes across as elitist.
The thing is if someone is going to make a wise crack or start talking down to people you should expect to get it right back. The butt hurtidness (not sure if thats a word either) of several when someone fires back is hypocritical. Then trying to justify their actions from some moral superiority is laughable.

Normally, I would be a rube, but since you are offering Banton's I will be an elitist for the day. All I need are directions to your bar.

I second the notion but I am a Hemingway spiced rum guy. I can bring it with me.

To the OP, if he’s still around, those are two mature buffalo but NOT old buffalo. When you see an old buffalo bull you will know it! Not much hair, big dewlap, worn tips and what birders call giz. You just know it when you see it. Both bulls are going to be exceptional especially the bottom one. He has better drops than the top bull. If my PH says shoot I shoot and if he says we can do better I hold fire. Plus by the time you go the bulls will have more age on them depending on when your safari takes place.
For some reason buffalo and wildebeest seem to bring out a lot of opinions on this site which I really like.
@gizmo, you really pissed in some Cheerios on this one!! I love the back and forth.
Of course all of the above is opinion only.

For sure, I’m off several Christmas card lists. Oh well, life goes on.

I’ve told you this before, and I hope one day you will listen. You have so much good experience that could be beneficial to most. Alas, you choose to use it poorly.

Go back and look at your posts. You’ve become biased by the same 4 to 5 people that always like your posts. Again that does not mean that the thousands of people that view them agree with them.
Why did you ignore his post that proved you wrong?

Wait....You have a bar??? I am in... :D Beers:

1. I didn’t. You liked the post when I commented on it.

2. A humorous post isn’t the same. Gizmo post on the specifics of piling on the same topics by a few is by far the most liked “serious” post on this thread.

You can believe it. Or not. But there are lots of people turned off by a few posters coming on posts about one thing and espousing the same old views. It feels elitist.

I’m glad some have the money to hunt wild Africa all the time. But dang come on. Most that swing by here are one time Africa hunters and SA is a great option for them.

The pro-south Africa side actually made this narrative anti-south Africa. If a person wants to hunt there they should know what questions to ask to choose the best hunt for their money. The effort to shut down any discussion about choosing the right hunt there is really disgraceful. The Democrats employ these same tactics in politics (very unsuccessfully in 2024).

Ha. Compare to dems. Rich.

What’s dem is when talking about one things bait and switch to another.

No it’s sad. Calling people elist pretentious pricks to discredit their experience is no different than the Democrats using the word racist. That word lost its meaning too. Some people here really show a lack of any integrity. This thread lost it’s value several pages ago.

You did.. Fox pointed out that red legs post had more likes than gizmos when you asserted that the number of likes on gizmos post represented a majority. You responded to fox but completely sidestepped that fact…

Another dem trick. Lying.

I didn’t call you pretentious or a prick. I said the crowd has become elistist in their views. I said you and a few others look down on South Africa hunting and a few other topics, and bring them up in threads not related to that.

The other stuff comes from someone else or your head.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
