I have a Whitworth Express in 375 H&H that I am working on a scope mounting solution for, using a vintage Leupold Vari-X II 2-7x glossy finish scope. The problem is that based upon the way the rifle receiver was drilled and tapped (I assume from the factory?), there isn't quite enough windage adjustment in this old Leupold scope to get it on target. Rather than get a different scope, I was first wanting to try the Leupold STD bases that have built-in windage adjustment to the rear base. However, the Leupold website indicates that these bases are only recommended up to 300 Win Mag. So my question is, is that a hard limit; or is it conservative, and there are folks using these bases with 375 H&H with no issue? I'm hoping for the latter, hence my post here to see if any members have tried using Leupold STD 2-piece bases with anything over 300 Win Mag.

Maybe a phone call to leupold customer service-if the answer is “no” they might have some other recommendations for you that could work better-good luck!

I wouldn’t !
I had for awhile on a Remington 700 375HH
Lasted about 40 rounds and rear ring windage screws would not hold.
I went picatinny afterwards. The windage base will not handle big bores.

Just took a set of those off my buddies .375H&H, they were in the process of tearing out of the rear mount screws.

I had the same thing happen with a .300Wby.

If I were you I’d look for better options.

Thank you all; this is extremely valuable feeback. I think I'll just go with a better scope that has more range of adjustment.
