My very novice opinion:

1) Mosquitoes
2) Snakes
3) Crocs if you have to go near water.
4) Hippos if you have to go near water.
5) Tuskless cow elephant

If you're hunting:

1) Tuskless cow elephants
This is very close to my opinion. I guess if it is the animals that I have the most feeling of risk from, then it is:

  1. Venomous snakes - Mambas, Cobras, Puff Adder, Gaboon Viper, etc.
  2. Crocs
  3. Hippo
  4. Ele but only if you are hunting them and approaching very close

On my first safari to South Africa a cow elephant had killed a PH, when he left his vehicle just to hike across a ridge to look for game just a few days before I arrived. He accidently got between the cow and her calf.

On the flight back home, I sat next to a game warden from Florida who's tracker was killed and the PH severely wounded by a leopard the previous year. (He was returning from his (successful) "free" hunt because of the tragedy the year before).

In 2022, my PH was nearly killed by a buffalo, after his client made a shot a little too far back. If he hadn't been VERY athletic, I think the buff would have got him.

Hunting DG can be dangerous, unless you aren't in for the whole experience.

(and if you're not, why bother?)

I don’t know about you guys… but I’m terrified of the impala…

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
