Lesser talked about trophies- recommendations?

You don't hear of a lot of people talking about all the blue wildebeest subspecies. Aside from the Common blue wildebeest there is Cookson's, Eastern White-bearded, Western white-bearded, and Nyasaland. I'm actually surprised some kind of 'slam' of them doesn't exist. While you're chasing some of them add a lesser kudu to the hunt, another less known.

And of things I see on trophy lists but not talked of much is the tsessebe.

Maybe look into, Oribi, blue duiker, Vaal Rhebuck, Klipspringer, mountain Rheedbuck, aardwolf and African porcupine are very beautiful as well, I enjoy hunting the vervet monkey as well

So is your intent to go to different areas/countries and hunt these animals or pick them from a list on a South African game farm? If the former, there are fabulous plains game experiences in Mozambique and Zambia where you can find interesting hunts for game in their native free range environment. For instance the Lichtenstein Hartebeest was a real challenge for me and took two trips to the Zambezi Delta to take one. Hunting a free range nyala or sable in Mozambique is a very different hunt in their native coastal savannah and forest habitat. Tracking down one of the big blue Livingstone Eland is as hard as any buffalo hunt. Or go to Namibia and hunt a Hartman zebra in his native mountains. And bushbuck everywhere in all their races and locations are a tremendous challenge. The options are enough to keep you engaged for a very long time.

Well said,
I'm looking at setting up a buffalo hunt in the next few years and would like to narrow down some of the areas. If I'm going to say Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, etc. I'd like to hunt some interesting critters if I have time. I really enjoyed mountIn zebra and red heartebeast so more different heartebeast hunting sounds great. I also like the idea of gerinuk hunting but I know little about hunting them. I'm also not really a collector of trophies as much as i like different and challenging hunting experiences. And I most enjoy hunting animals with hooves the most.

Well if you end up in Zambia maybe have a look at puku, chobe bushbuck, Lichtenstein hartebeest or even the kafue lechwe.

Exactly what I would say. Zambia great diverse safari country and the species mentioned are all worthy trophies.

Tanzania for Grant's Gazelle, Thompson's Gazelle, Robert's Gazelle, lesser kudu, gerenuk, Coke's hartebeest, etc...

Zambia for sitatunga, puku, sable, roan and the three lechwe species.

Cameroon for bongo and Lord Derby eland.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
