Leopard Wishbone

How come no one told me about a wish bone when I shot my leopard lol That is stunning Manny. What part is the wish bone.
In reading old Africana, the skinners would take the hyoid bones to use in some of their rituals. If you don’t ask for them they will take them.

This may not be applicable now but some traditions never fade.

Yes lion and leopard have floating bones as they are called. They are commonly made into jewelry. I had Baranof jewelers (SCI sponsor) make my wife a unique piece from my lion bones.
Do mountain lions have them?

I’m not sure but I don’t think so. I believe jaguars, lions, leopards and tigers have them. This is what allows them to roar. Other cats scream. This may just be an old wives tale though.

I knew they did because I have skinned a couple, but here is a clip about hyoid bones in cougars as well as larger cats-

These bones are not commonly kept in the states to my knowledge but the baculum bone of species that have them is a real crowd pleaser!

@Firebird , guess I was a little bit right and a little bit wrong. That is a very interesting explanation.

Hi PaulB. Would you be interested in another WJ Jeffery .450/.400 NE 3". It's an extractor model and in superb condition, cased as well. Made in 1908. The rifle is here in Texas.
