Leopard attack while hunting with Jeff Rann in Botswana

Dont speak for everyone thanks.

“Pretty much all” isn’t “all” and therefore not “everyone” (y)

Edit to add: I’ve only shot 3 pigs, all have been on foot by the moonlight to initially find them then using a torch. 2 with a shotgun one with open sights on a .450 nitro.

I would have guessed this was a follow up of a wounded cat but confirmation is lacking? I would be surprised if JR would be involved in it otherwise and if so would likely not want it filmed and publicized. We are often very quick to condemn without knowing all the facts.

I`ve knocked them in the triple 0 figures, most with dogs and knife on foot...old style.

Geez you were up late (or early?).
Locally everyone just drives around til the dogs go off then let them out and wait til they hear the dogs on a pig then drive over. I do agree, foot is best, funner, more sporting. Like spotlighting Roos, it’s better on foot in the day. *with permits of course*
South east Queensland by the way, you’re Victoria so I can only assume things are done differently since the areas would be fairly different?

One thing I learned here is this...you don't want to go after a leopard with a damn shotgun unless you got a full box of shells !!

Plus don’t shoot the car if you’re in one lol. Does his first shot hit it or is that my imagination?

What I can tell you is that it is highly highly unlikely that a wounded leopard will go 3 to 4km when wounded even more so when chased by a pack of dogs.

Well what is quite clear is that he was involved and it is also quite clear that they used semi automatic firearms that are illegal and it is also quite clear that they used the vehicle to kill the leopard which is also illegal and of course it was filmed and available for all to see...

All of which seems counterintuitive for someone of Rann's reputation, does it not? If everything he did here is or was illegal, was he charged with anything? I should think if all that is so, that Rann would be cooling his heels in jail somewhere right?

Lots of things in Africa happen that are not legal and do not fall into what is required, does that make it right? Many many people get away with illegal activities....

Hunting from a vehicle was illegal, hunting with a semi automatic is illegal....

Did it happen with Reputable outfitters, of course.

Did he get caught? Apparently not, which does not make illegal activity right.

Personally I would be ashamed to hang that leopard on my wall....

Watched again and it does look like they are pumping the shotguns..

I thought so too, but I admit its hard to tell, in particular with the client. More so with Rann. I don't know enough about scatterguns to recognize the two they use.

The client gets off 3 shots once the leopard departs without pumping anything....

This was posted by the looks of it by some anti to start arguments. It does say right there that the cat was wounded before the chase began. Its also from 4 years ago. I suspect its been sensationalized somewhat.

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
