Leica Amplus 6 1-6x24i L-4a

The raised emblems on both sides of the scope were strategically placed by some idiot engineer, blocking out the best place for the front scope ring.
An engineer would see no functional reason at all to even have the emblems. Sounds more like a marketing guy that wanted the logo prominently displayed and didn't have a clue about the scope/ring interface.

Philistine.

No problem mounting 2 of them on my Blaser pro success 375 ‘s

Based on your own calculations Mike: ~5.875 minus ~6.5 = ~0.625. You will have ~5/8" margin in the front.

The front ring around the objective lens is a more valid concern.
One Day: I think that the problem that Nevada Mike, SFRanger7GRP, and others are trying to point out, is that despite the straight part of the tube being of sufficient overall length, the positioning of the Leica logo will interfere with the front ring.

Perhaps a picture will better illustrate the problem. This is an Amplus6 1-6x24i which has been temporarily mounted on my .375 H&H. The scope tube has been placed as far forward as possible (i.e., the bell of the ocular lens is in contact with the rear scope ring). As you can see, the red logo is partially under the front scope ring. Admittedly, there is very little under there, but it is there. And if I needed to move the scope rearwards it would be more so. That is the problem to which the others have alluded.

Follow-up: after numerous attempts, I finally made contact with a rep at Leica USA. He also owns one of these scopes but was unaware of the problem, as his is mounted on a standard-length action. However, he advised that because the emblem is of thin metal and attached with adhesive, you could just pry it off using a flat object (screwdriver or perhaps a toothpick) without damaging the scope tube. He also stated that this would not void the factory warranty. He offered to send a couple of replacement discs in case I ever decided to use the scope on a different rifle (or more likely, the kids sell it off someday).

So there's a possible solution to this problem. It's certainly a quality scope, far superior to most of the other options available at this price-point.

Thanks for that follow up. Leica posts here all the time. They should take some time to read what the people who actually buy and use their products think about them. This scope is working out well on my Rigby 416 Big Game but getting it mounted properly was frustrating.

I have just finished with mounting the Amplus 6 on my pre 64 375 unfortunately the logo got covered the front talley rings.

Not sure, who came up with the idea of placing the logo on the scope tube. All the other scope lines were on the turret.

This is how mine turned out on this gun, not much room, I don’t think you would want all or part of the logo under your rings, removal would be best option if it’s in the way

Frustrating in what sense ?

Luckily you have just managed to get it right. Remove the logo and do what? Not interested in advertising for Leica. Prefer it hidden behind the rings. I had an option to install extended front base but that would have covered my loading port. This is the least we can do for their stupid engineering. Cheers

In the sense that very few of us have a top-rated gunsmith living next door to us, so any work needed requires a long drive or shipping. This requires additional lost time and costs. Looking at the dimensions of the scope and the size of the Mauser action (as well as numerous scope mount charts) you will not even consider the need for an extension ring. Then you go to mount it and the raised Leica emblems throw a wrench into everything. Our options were to remove or shave down the unnecessary emblem on a $1200+ scope or get an extension ring.

Now, German scope mounts are not something readily available and they often require addition modifications unless you get the exact one needed. Now in my case, our issue required a call to NECG (one of the few places in the US that stock high quality scope mounts) where they (fortunately) had the needed extension ring in stock. We requested (extra cost) express shipping so I could get ready for Africa. The gunsmith called me and immediately mounted everything as soon as it arrived. How many gunsmiths do that?

Maybe I am just wrapped too tight, but I was frustrated. The guys at NECG and the gunsmith (Todd Ramirez, one of the best) could not believe how calm I was about all this. However, I did go pour me a whisky at 0800 in the morning when Todd called and said "we have a problem..."

In summary, I had several manufacturing facilities under my charge before I retired from the civilian work force, so I understand how a "great idea", or a well-intended marketing gimmick can cause the consumer extra cost and frustration. What Leica did here is a good example but how they handle it will say who they are.

Sounds like a resounding vote for Swarovski!

Thanks for the feedback. Now let me tell you something. I live in India and we don’t have a single gunsmith who can even do a basic job on a rifle. They are extremely CRUDE guys and work with bare minimum basic tools. You guys are extremely lucky living in the US where you have excess to everything. I ruined my Talley base screws during the scope installation process therefore now I will have to wait for at least a month for them to reach India. We do all the installation work ourselves. No gunsmiths etc. Moreover the gun laws hete are so strict and stupid that one can’t imagine.
Since there is a ban on firearms import the cost of firearms is extremely high. My pre64 375 would be worth at least 12 thousand USD which was imported in 1960. So you can well imagine a cost of a rifle. 357 hand gun cost here is at least 40 thousand USD.
We all here are extremely updated with firearms and who’s who around the world in the firearm industry. But sadly all this knowledge does not help us to persue our passion.
So now I hope you understand how frustrating it must be of us only looking at pictures of those beautiful firearms and scopes in Boddington’s or Jack O connor’s books.
Just spoke from my

You asked how I was frustrated so I told you. Based on your level of frustrations, I have nothing to complain about. I cannot even begin to imagine what you and your fellow sportsmen go through. Here in the USA, we often forget how fortunate we are.

It is a great looking logo though!
Yes it is!

@Bapu was very diplomatic in pointing out what I spoiled whiner I am. He was correct, and I am truly blessed to "suffer" like that. Hopefully, the experiences shared here will alert Leica and other manufacturers to do a bit more field research instead of letting the customer tell them what is wrong with their product.

Also, I hope these experiences will alert AH users on possible issues so they can be resolved up front.

Happy Christmas and Safe Shooting

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
