Leather work advice need - Elastic cartridge holders

For mid bores I think a 6 round slide is just about optimum.. small enough to easily fit on any waist and not get in the way... with plenty of additional ammo to take you through an entire day of heavy hunting and still leave a few extra rounds on the belt just in case.. (between the 4-5 in the gun, an additional 4-5 for a full reload, and then having 1-2 left over on the belt.. thats a whole lot of PG hunting for a single day for sure..)...

I currently have one that holds 5 rounds and I my thought was to get a second slide so that I can carry softs in one and solids in the other. I’m going on an elephant hunt in 2024 and thought it would come in handy to have both with me just in case I needed to switch ammo quickly.

My apologies to the OP. This thread kinda got high jacked. I will make the announcement on my custom leatherwork thread as well, and give updates there.
No apology required. I quite like the direction the discussion has headed. If you're going to have your operation up and running in a few months, I might hold off till then and place an order instead. Not having done any leather work before, I suspect my attempt would have been on the decidedly amateurish side. Also not cost effective considering the cost of buying leather and tools.:)

Ive actually done a good bit of my own leather and have made a few ammo pouches, slides, etc..

Your suspicions are absolutely correct though.. while my stuff works and I have enjoyed using it... it is definitely on the amateurish side.. and was not in any way cost effective to make once you consider the investment in the tools and the leather, etc.

Having a couple of nice pieces of leather kit... especially nice kit made by a member of this group.. is very appealing I think..

You are both correct in the cost to get in and the learning curve. If I could get ahold of the first dozen or so saddles I made; I would set them all on fire. Luckily I didn’t have a maker’s stamp for quite sometime so none of my first saddles were marked. That said; I would never begrudge anyone for wanting to get started in the trade. It’s a pretty satisfying way to spend the day.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
