Really sorry to see that happen. Had my .338 delayed a day at Dulles a couple of years ago; really frustrating because they agreed it was on the airfield "somewhere". Also a tuffpak shipment. Rifle was delivered to the house the next day and it too had been damaged. It had a groove ground in the stock as if someone had used a rasp. Good news is that Keith Kearcher in Bend, OR worked his magic and it is undetectable. I have no doubt that yours can be repaired, and careful use of acraglass can reinforce the head. It will be a challenge to completely hide the cracks.

JJ says he can probably fix it without restocking. He fixed a crack in the .450 NE conversion that was the focus of this post originally. Nothing negative about the Tuffpak for bolt guns - still a great way to go. I'll never travel with a double in one piece again in a Tuffpak, though. Airlines, TSA and in this case, a trucking company, are too rough on a one-piece double in a case where it can experience leverage through the pistol grip. Live and learn ....

Great news. If you are "gun shy" about shipping it, drive it up to JJ's, stop in OKC and I will take you to lunch.
 
You have my deepest empathy for your situation, it makes me sick to see a beautiful rifle wrecked.
 
Damn,,sorry to read about the breakage,,,I deal in Vintage Audio gear as a hobby and basically stopped shipping anything due to losses of gear that can,t be replaced
 
Boy thats the nuts! Hate to see that on any gun. Unfortunately it may have nothing to do with impact damage intentional or otherwise. Sometimes just changes in temperature, humidity and pressure can cause such things to happen. A couple of years ago I shipped a very nice T/C Seneca to Alaska from Washington state. As many know T/C side lock guns are prone to developing cracks at the lock bolt on the left side of the gun. When I shipped this rifle it was perfect. When the buyer picked it up in AK, yep, it was cracked big time at the lock bolt. He kept the gun anyway but wasnt very happy, but neither was I. It happens. Hope you get the rifle taken care of.

These guns travel better in two pieces, in a fitted hardcase.
