Off road is ......

a tarmac (black top) road built by the Chinese in Africa

They do the best pot holes in the world

Other than perhaps DRC in the rains, where potholes are big enough to swallow a car

The haul road from Fairbanks to Dead Horse was crazy bad before we hauled 60,000 barrels of asphalt up it. I’ve seen 3/4 tons with broken axles on the road. Coming back from a hunt one year a bridge washed out steaming all of us on the North side. We set up camp and cooked caribou while they rebuilt it.

That Sir is an ideal off road vehicle

Ugly as sin - but just works(ed)

Forward a year or two and my second exped vehicle was ...

The Toyota 98 Troupy - a vehicle in a different league to the landrover stuff

@bowjijohn
Certainly is a different league to a landy but only just. Toss up the troops is still agricultural but bigger and a slightly better motor. Both slugs on the highway 4 cylinder landy or 1HZ toyo diesel still not as good or reliable as a Nissan TD27 or TD42.. Easy 1,000,000 km motors.
Still not a Nissan.

Get an old one and fix it up. Spares are readily available, and it is part of the fun. You don't need to aim for originality, it gets too hard and can slow things down a lot. The real fun is in using the car.
@Kevin Peacocke
Spares have to be readily available, they keep breaking down. HA HA HA HA.
Try and get a spare rim or tyre for one in outback Australia. You have more chance of buying 1,000 primer for 20 dollars.

Here there are plenty of spares.

That's because you need them with a land Rover.
You can't even panel beat a dented panel because they are aluminium.
Bend = replace. The body may not rust just everything else.

Bob, one buys the ladies jewelery and dresses.

That is true but one doesn't wear them. A land Rover is the pigs ear of beauty not the silk purse. No matter how you dress it it's still a pigs ear.
If you put lipstick on a pig it's still a pig.

I'll give free tows to Series III Rovers and earlier models in north Georgia.

I'd waste too much time on anything later.....

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
