Krieghoff Classic 500/416 Nitro Express

In that rifle rack above is a very nice rifle built on a Vector action in .450 Rigby. Nice engraving, beautiful wood, and it also shoots lights out. Someone should try to pry that from his hands also. He probably won’t sell it but you never know.

First of all that is a gorgeous double. How many doubles do you have, and in what calibers? Can you identify everything in this lineup for us?

"How many doubles do I own?", @Beck asked? It seems one to many at present.

First, these rifles are all about the same length. The visual perspective makes them appear to be different lengths.

From top to bottom, rifle and "Chambering". The word caliber refers to the bore diameter, not the specific chambering.
  • Blaser S2 chambered in .375 H&H. It is a accurate as it is ugly!
  • Krieghoff Classic chambered in .500/.416 Nitro Express. Obviously the beauty queen in my safe!
  • Heym 88B chambered in .458 Winchester Magnum.
My Heym is "My Rifle", presumably as it was its former late caretaker who took "Several elephants, buffalo, rhino, and other game" with it. This was provided by his son who hunted all over southern Africa with his father.

As much as I love owning the above Krieghoff Classic, it would never replace my old Heym on Safari. She needs to be in the hands of a new caretaker who will make her their favorite rifle.

I will save the picture show of my magazine rifles for when I have photos that won't embarrass them...

I wish I could!!! It even looks left hand shooter friendly??? It doesn’t have a cheek piece…

Mark mind if I ask how did you get this chambering? “Heym 88B chambered in .458 Winchester Magnum”

My Heym 88B was made in 1986. At that time the rimmed cartridges were not available. Thus, makers offered double rifles in rimless chamberings.

Will let Mark speak on the shooting of his 500/416. I will give a basic answer on the round as I have the same rifle but the timber on mine is not as good as Marks's. It took me only a couple range sessions to develop loads for 400gr Aframes, DGX, Partitions on the soft side and 400 gr solids from CEB, Northfork, DGS. they all hit within a 1/2 inch of each other. 416 rigby class of round in a double what is not to love. You can hunt anything on the planet with it. Might not be the best option for marco polo sheep but you get my drift.

Marks double is a awesome deal.

I also like your Hyem 458.

Yeah just looked on there current sight not available  how did you find the 500/416? to shoot? Cheers
Thanks for keeping my For Sale thread at the top of the page... :)

Did you see the factory regulation target posted in my first post in this thread? Four shots within 2" at 50 meters. The rifle shoots at least this well with proper loads.

I have a spreadsheet of loads that some equal groups that I will provide to the buyer or SERIOUS potential buyer. Other loads at higher velocity than the factory 410 Woodleigh loads opened up the spread. Dwell time of bullet in barrel is very important to a double rifle regulating. There are of course other factors but all else being equal, the rifle recoils up and left or right, depending on the barrel. The point in space that he muzzle is passing as the bullet exits has an awful lot to do with how each load regulates.

This thread is getting off the topic of me selling my Krieghoff. :)
Please ask serious questions via Direct Message. If important, I will add the information to this thread.

Gentlemen,

It was brought to my attention that the length of pull (LOP) for my Krieghoff is not listed. I could have sworn that I posted this table...

You listed it, it is in the paragraph directly below the photo of the test target in your first post. Ironically, it is my length of pull, just not in my budget for now. GLWS!

@Mark A Ouellette, no need to sell your rifle. Simple, adopt me, and I will take extra care of your beautiful rifle. I'm potty trained, & I can reload. Easy. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

In all seriousness, that is one beautiful rifle package. Good luck with sale sir. Oh, and you have some fine taste in doubles. (y)

“Nothing epitomizes the skills and experience needed for a successful hunt like taking game with a classic double rifle. Prized by dangerous game hunters for years the classic double rifle provides the security and reliability when each shot really counts. The Krieghoff CLASSIC double rifle combines the heritage of the traditional side-by-side and the sophistication of the most modern design and manufacturing technology. The CLASSIC is available in the most common and suitable calibers. Krieghoff’s master gunmakers combined both traditional wisdom and innovative ideas to build a rifle that provides the ultimate in safety and reliability and a wide range of features that ensure smooth, quick, and accurate shooting. In addition to the superb handling of the rifle, a most important feature is the manual cocking device, which is located on the top tang, in the position usually occupied by a conventional safety. It allows carrying the CLASSIC fully loaded with the hammers uncocked – the safest position since there is no chance of an accidental discharge. Craig Boddington, an accomplished hunter and knowledgeable writer remarks: “After using it in the field, I am increasingly impressed with your cocking device versus a traditional safety. Great rifle, and of course it performed wonderfully.”

Support group admission:
The Krieghoff 500/416 double rifle was my first love and experience shooting a double rifle.

In 2003, at a public range in South Carolina, a 10-time safari hunter showed up on a quiet afternoon with a pair of Krieghoffs, the 500/416 and a 30-06.
He kindly let me shoot both. Accurate, well fitted, I was surprised I centered the 8" bull at 100 yards with both, 4 shots each, first time with a double with express sights. The Trijicon SRO enhances shot accuracy.

@Mark A Ouellette is offering a tremendous deal, with this double, high grade wood (best I've seen on any Krieghoff gun or rifle) and all accessories for $19,000.
You'll get enough brass for a lifetime, the factory ammo, dies, and Trijicon SRO and mount.
Buy .416 bullets, powder and primers and you're good to go.

Buy it and go hunt buffalo, elephant, hippo on land, or kudu, eland, or any PG.

Good Luck With the Sale.

Very good deal here

Here is your opportunity to own a beautiful modern double rifle with a lifetime supply of brass and dies!

Bump. Still can't believe this incredible deal and package is still for sale!!! I have learned sometimes you just have to leap out and take advantage of a deal like this. Just like my Rigby Higland Stalker in 275 with the extra add on's for the rifle itself and then the ammo and brass...I bought an $18,000 gun for $12,000 from a great AH member...with Mark this is the same situation...someone will kick themselves not taking advantage of a great caliber that will take anything on this earth for a great price and package.

I would be all over it if I hadn't just spent $27,000 on a new HVAC system for my home. Very nice rifle in a very cool, new NE caliber!

Back After a Long Time – Hello Again!

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a member since 2015 but haven’t been active since 2017. Life got busy, especially with building my second business. Still, I’ve kept my passion for hunting and followed things from afar. Now that I have more time, I’m excited to reconnect, contribute, and be part of the community again.

All the best,

I'd like a bag of 100. I could actually pick it up since I'm in North Irving, but if you prefer, shipping it is fine.
