KMG Hunting Safaris 2024 Season Photos

Sharpe's Grysbuck taken in the day, leaving our hunter with one more to complete his Tiny 10 Slam.

This stud of a Bushbuck ram was hunted with us in the late season during 2024. Big, chipped bases, heavy to the top with a big body and thick neck to go with it. No doubt he was the main guy in his area.

A sensational Warthog. During the warm months, especially over a full moon, these big boars go almost completely nocturnal. They simply disappear from being seen during the day time, as food is generally plentiful over the summer months. When the cold from the Winter don't bother them, they prefer the safety of darkness. Keep this in mind when planning a safari and if a big pig is on your list.

After getting the call on another lamb killed, arrangements were made to get the hounds over to the kill first thing the next morning. All farmers in our area know to leave any kill and not to disturb it in any way. There is a very high probability that the culprit will return during the night or early hours of the morning, giving the hounds an excellent base to work from. First thing in the morning, PH, hunter and hounds ensued upon the kill site and they immediately confirmed that he did indeed come back . This Caracal was no different, and the experience of the hounds were tested taking a few hours to eventually tree.

Hunting the members of the Tiny 10 is such an underrated hunt. Each one brings its own challenges. In your pursuit to complete the slam, it takes you to 3-4 parts of Southern Africa. Out of the 10, six of them can be hunted in the Eastern Cape. Three of them can be split between Limpopo/Kwazulu Natal/Mozambique with the last one needing you wonder into Namibia.
Here is an excellent Steenbuck taken on the last safari of the 2024 season.

Just got word from head Professional Hunter Nick that he got notified of a fresh kill from one of the nearby landowners yesterday. Upon inspection, he could clearly see the work of a big Caracal but could also see that some Jackal had eaten as well. First thing this morning they went straight to the kill, and as soon as the hounds got there, they start giving tongue.
This has got to be one of the biggest Caracal taken over the pack. An absolute unit.

Do you ever get trail camera photos or see signs of cape leopards in your areas?

Yes, hounds treed two Leopard last year. This is obviously without targeting them. Some of the hounds took a beating. One lost and eye and broken leg. Other one got ruffed up a bit.

These Cape Mountain Zebra are absolutely striking! One of the great conservation success stories where hunters' dollars are directly responsible for the advancement of the species. It's a real shame that USFWS don't recognize this and not allowing Americans to import them.

Still up in the mountains, we found this lone Black Wildebeest bull keeping an eye on his patch of land that he has claimed. When you have lone bulls holding their little patches similar to a scrape, you know you have a healthy population. These bulls will scrape, paw, urinate and perform in these patches in order to impress the cows. If you bump a bull off these scrapes, they will invariably return, often on the same day.

Not long and this guy will be pumped up, trying to impress the ladies... Any guesses on length?

This is a substantial Mountain Reedbuck from one of our free range areas. Noticed the stretched, smooth appearance around the basses. This is what we refer to as secondary growth. Our Professional Hunters take the time to look at these small details while stalking with the help of a quality spotting scope. These are the minor details that we believe in, in the pursuit of sustainable utilization. When you pay for a Professional Hunter, that is exactly what you should be getting.

After spotting this ram flashing into the thick stuff, it meant the waiting game would be the order of the day. After finding some height with a good vantage point overlooking the little nook where he was last seen, PH Nick and our hunter got comfortable for a good few hours. As they started descending to try and get a better look , the radio cracked from tracker Themba up above that the ram had appeared with two ewes. Some ground was made in double time with a nice prone position shot to bag this sensational old Bushbuck ram.

Big Blesbuck on a wet morning in one of our free range areas. Blesbuck are one of those that can go either way. Either they are like small stock or they are wild like Vaal Rhebuck. Where they can see far, they like to keep their distance.

That will get your adrenaline going
Especially the hounds-man. He's the one walking up expecting a Caracal in the tree. Last one said when he got closer, it sounded like the cat in the tree had a speaker attached to its mouth... :)
