hello - just starting the proc as of planning an African hunt. Have wanted to go for years. Hoping for 2018 or 2019. Looking at East cape Safaris. Really want a Nayla, Gemsbok, and Kudu. Would like to take my son. My wife and his girlfriend want to go also (but not hunt). My biggest concern is planning for one price and having it end up much higher (hidden costs). Would appreciate any and all recommendations. Thanks everyone. Paul

Welcome aboard!

Lots of great outfitters on this site!

There are several reputable sponsors of AH that operate in the Eastern Cape that will be more than happy to provide you with a great safari.

Read some of the Hunt Reports.

Either that antelope was shot on very steep terrain, or perhaps Brickburn can help with your avatar? Welcome! As suggested, take advantage of the search function. You will find a wealth of information here upon which to base your planning and decision.

Welcome aboard sir. Lots of great choices here. Check out as many as you can and go and have fun.

Welcome to AH BankerUhlig! Plenty to research here and learn.

Welcome! Lots of good info here, and I think you'll find many of the reputable outfitters lay everything out as far as what is included vs excluded. Then you can research the variable costs (for example taxidermy costs will obviously depend on the number of animals you take).

Welcome! Great info here! You're going to have a great time as a family group!
Best

Welcome to AH!

Welcome Sir. I hope you enjoy the site. I did send you a PM with some info.

Welcome to AH! I would recommend since you live in Denton, to spend a couple of days at the Dallas Safari Club convention in January. If you're free on the Friday evening of the convention, we have an annual dinner which will be again at Gilley's just down the street from the convention center.

Welcome...Agree with Phil, DSC in January should be your next stop outside of this forum!

Welcome aboard, enjoy the planning!

Welcome! Lots of great AH sponsors to choose from for the hunt of your dreams and within a budget. Plenty of hunt reports too.

Welcome, You have started your journey in a great place. May want to check out some of the deals and offers from some of the sponsors here. Enjoy the journey.

Welcome to AH, if you are not set on the Cape area and might want to consider Limpopo for your hunt please send us a mail and we can cost your safari for you.

Good day
Welcome to the site!! We are in the middle of the eastern cape and can help you with some great free range and fair chase options here.
I will get a PM on its way to you.
Warm regards

Welcome to AH BankerUhlig. I took my two sons to Africa last August. We did some research ahead of time and made a spreadsheet comparing alternative costs. It took a while but we were able to document the total cost of the safari ahead of time. I must say that I have not been surprised with any costs not previously anticipated. That is not to say there were no additional costs. The three of us added an additional animal to our "package" but we were aware of the additional costs before we squeezed the trigger. We used the services of a number of companies recommended by AH members to arrange travel, importation of rifles, lodging in Joberg the night of arrival etc. Your hunt is subject to a VAT tax on the "daily rate" but not trophy fees. Tips for the PHs and staff are expected. Side trips if taken are extra as well as the cost of souvenirs. Other costs to consider include the new gear you may "need" for your hunt and an electrical adaptor from RSAs 240V wall plug to 120V The outfitters on AH will all provide you with a list of recommendations of things you will need. I purchased an International Health Insurance Policy good for 30 days and Global Rescue as well as a very complete First Aid Kit but that was my choice and included in my spreadsheet.

Planning and doing the research is part of the fun. Good luck and happy hunting.
