John Rigby (30-06) New/Mint/Unused, Plus Swarovski Scope ($16k + Shipping) (Michigan)

I think you’re telling me to look out for myself come deer season and be grateful for decision to not do anything rash :)
Exactly! Me and Mama shared my 30-06 Highland Stalker on plains game on a couple of trips. I have the HS in 30-06 and the Big Game in 416. I think that is the perfect Africa Safari combo. For hunting North America, the HS jumps into my hand first whenever I reach in the gun safe.

As a "Rigby Influencer", I think you should definitely keep your Highland Stalker. :D Take it hunting this season so you can bond with it properly.

Safe hunting
btw - you were right about bonding with the gun properly: used the rigby and took 3 deer with her this past fall 2024. Cleanest firing for any 30-06 I’ve ever experienced.

Like Goldilocks, after experiencing the 416 Rigby, 30.06 Rigby, and 375h&h, I think the .375 tastes just right. Been liquidating my safe to reflect just this reality.

I have a Highland Stalker in .30-06 that I would sell for a a very reasonable price, about 60% of new. If you are interested, send me a PM. I would throw in 10 boxes of ammo as well.

Well, this post and one other pushed me over the cusp. I only lasted two more days before buying a .416 Rigby BGR that Giffin & Howe had on consignment. Added a Swaro Z8 and drug it to Africa that June. It worked its mojo on everything I pointed it at, from buffalo to impala, with a 47+” sable, roan, eland, and kudu in between. Taking it back over day after tomorrow for my daughter’s first safari too. I’ll likely chase a buffalo, she’s chasing plains game.

JW, where you doing your sheep hunt? August, assuming you are doing Dall or Stone. I’ve harvested several Dalls and helped with several others. Taken one desert bighorn, and if I ever draw a rocky bighorn, I’ll likely have to go after stone too. I get to chase Dall every year, and as a resident, it’s not so expensive since the tag is free and have several close friends who are transporters, so depending on which range I decide to hunt, the bush flights done set me back much. That’s why stone will be last on my list since I can hunt Dall for essentially the rest of my life for the price of a stone hunt and the only real difference is a coat with some grey in it.

I’m not a sheep hunting expert, but am a fanatic. In my group of buds, feel like a novice with only 9 Dall hunts under my belt, two of those were guiding my ex-wife on her ram in the Tok Management area and then my daughter for her ram in the Mount Harper area, which is her namesake. Was super special that she drew that permit her first year in the draws. I’ve taken a few rams in the Alaska Range, then in the Wrangells, and Chugach mountains. Feel free to PM me and would happily answer any questions and share what I can. The twister below is the ram from this year I helped my buddy get. His first at age 61. He had honors this past season as I owed him for helping me pack on my daughter’s hunt. She got a real nice, heavy old ram.

Amazing share - and thanks for reaching out! If you wouldn’t mind shooting me a call, would appreciate talking sheep! Going this August with south Nahanni outfitters. My first of 3 sheep hunts booked between 2025 - 2027, with Rocky Mountain left off the radar given cost: will let the wallet recover before booking that one . Will dm you contact info. Thanks in advance for time and friendship

What a great Rigby!

I am also going on my first sheep hunt (Dall) in August with Jonah Stuart. Looking forward to it!

What great father/daughter experiences - those pictures are priceless!

It’s funny you said that. I actually hunted deer for a day or two last year with my .375 H&H (Remington 700 model), and while it had an extra kick (sure), the massive hole folks claimed would occur wasn’t really that at all. Deer expired a tad quicker, I would say…
The "massive hole" is a myth. I will say, however, the deer took a certainly harder ballistic hit and fell much sooner than my 30.06 would have given.

I read an older thread that mentioned you having some 9.3x64 brass. Do you still have some? I am looking for 100 pcs, maybe 200.
