Jeffrey Lendrum, who is running the African Hunting Gazette magazine "Visited & Verified" program for hunting outfitters, and the brother of Richard Lendrum of Future Publishing (Pty) Ltd, owner of the African Hunting Gazette magazine and the struggling African Hunting EXPO has been repeatedly convicted of smuggling endangered wildlife and sentenced to 30 months in prison for his most recent offense.

He was first convicted in Zimbabwe in 1984, then again in Canada in 2002 and most recently in the UK in 2010. Jeff Lendrum was called "the highest level of wildlife criminal" by the investigating officer from the National Wildlife Crime Unit in the UK.

Wow that is shocking and disgusted to hear that the man who owns African Hunting Gazette, which I have been subscribing to for years, has so little integrity that he would hire such a flagrant wildlife criminal to work for his hunting magazine, brother or not.

I really have a hard time believing that in a community where it seems like an awful lot of people know each others business that some influential members of PHASA, RW, SCI or DSC have not heard about this guy and removed their ads or affiliation with this company. Aren't they supposed to support conservation and promote ethical utilization of wildlife? Now that it's out there I am curious to see how these organizations will react.

What about all of the outfitters that this guy has been visiting? Is African Hunting Gazette letting them know that a convicted criminal is being sent to stay at their house with their family for the purpose of "verifying" their outfits? If I was an outfitter knowing what I know now, I would not let this guy anywhere near my property!

As an ethical hunter with a deeply personal sense of responsibility about conservation, I will no longer spend my hard earned dollars buying this very expensive magazine that I have subscribed to for some years. The owner has shown a serious lack of integrity and it seems that conservation is just a word that they use but don't stand up for.

A visit should not be a problem, as long as you don't have anything of value in your house or on your property that he can smuggle out or sell.

Another one bites the dust.

since joining ah i must truley say that ive been walking around with my eyes closed as to the cloak and dagger stuff that goes on in the conservation hunting industry .
this place really is a must to the general hunting community .i really respect the lenghts everyone goes to bring light to these situations .
thanks fellas

Hi, I am Jeff Lendrum. Please feel free to contact me directly. I did my time and am committed to my job. Dont blame my brother or the magazine. This happened in 2010. The irony is the timing. Please feel free to contact me directly on +27723485930. I have a good idea who posted this and why only now, so doubt I will hear from you.

Jeff, please reply on this open forum. I am sure we would like to hear about the irony and the timing regarding the poster. We don't like poachers or smugglers, but in general we are fair. Give us a chance to be fair.

Hi Dutch,
What I did was stupid and believe me I paid for it. I am writing a book about my life. Regarding the timing, this was worldwide news in August 2010,(CNN, BBC, Sky to name a few) so why is this coming out now! I have told most of the outfitters I have visited and have nothing to hide. With me, the criminal Justice system worked or do I have to keep paying? I am sincerely sorry. Best regards, Jeff

Were you sincerely sorry after the first time, the second time or just the third time?

That you are working for AHG is in my opinion an entirely new news story, I think that it's relevant that after serving time for such a crime that you're working for a magazine that is about hunting and supposedly stands for conservation. It's relevant to me who has been a subscriber to this magazine. It's still relevant news to anyone who subscribes to AHG who does not know that they are employing a repeatedly arrested and convicted wildlife smuggler.

I am writing a book about my life.
What does writing a book about your life have to do with anything? That's one book I have no interest in. I have no desire to read about the escapades of a greedy wildlife smuggling profiteer!

This story will follow you for the rest of your life as it should, it's a choice you made, it's something you did and it's shameful. I don't think that you have any place working in a hunting magazine, it casts a shadow over all hunters.

Its a long story and obviously I am not perfect. You know nothing about me. I was judged by a judge and paid the price. Or are you more qualified than the Right Honorable Judge Christopher Hodson? Please call me and after we have spoken and I have explained myself, we will be friends.

Jeff, as to who posted this: It appears the OP is Jerome.

I am not sure about the irony of the timing?? Help me out. Implied motive on Jerome's part?

Never heard of you before and apparently many others have not either and as for knowing nothing about you I would have to agree, until I read this post.
Now I know plenty. You are a repeat offender that does not learn from his convictions.

Since one of these apparent convictions occurred in Canada, I would like to feel satisfied as a citizen that the punishment that was meted out was adequate. Given the repeat offence, I am disheartened that it apparently was not effective at all.

Time will only tell if Judge Hodson's sentence was ineffective.

Since I have just read the news I am angry today. That is part of the price.

This is on Youtube video of your "tour" in Canada.

I suspect he is sorry...mainly SORRY HE GOT CAUGHT!

Up until then he was not "sorry" for his actions. He was only a "Sorry Excuse of a Human Being"

I hope nobody buys his book so there is no rewarding him for his "sorry" actions.

I think that sums it up! When you are convicted multiple times, it speaks volumes about your actions.

What I cannot understand is why this is all of a sudden big news when this happened in 2010? Many outfitters know about it and realize how the media distort the facts. As I said earlier it was world wide news then! Who brought it to Jeromes attention only now? Anyway whatever the case I am willing to talk to anybody who calls as this is just too long winded to explain over a forum.

If you saw the whole video, not just the bits the media showed, you would understand what I was actually doing. Please feel free to call me anytime. Or email me, jefflendrum@gmail.com.

I was sorry the third time!
Is there no place in your thoughts to give a criminal a chance after doing his time.
Trust me I will have to pay for it for the rest of my life. One thing I have learnt is do not believe all that you read. I always prefer to talk directly with someone than behind their backs or especially on a medium such as this!
