@Lee in TexasIt really is a small world. I saw this rifle for sale at **NOT**PERMITTED**. It sounded familiar, and how many 1917 Enfields in 358 Norma Magnum could there be? I googled it and found an ad about two years old for the same rifle. When I got it, I took off the scope mounts and saw that it’s a Remington Model 30 Express. Both ads had called it a 1917 Enfield.
I have a Mauser with a really distinct and beautiful crest. I clicked “buy it now”, then googled that model of Mauser. I found a thread featuring the exact same rifle I had just bought. A gunsmith who collects military rifles urged me to leave it as-is and not make it a sporter, but…it’s going to be a sporter. It wants to leave behind its old life of hunting people.
Lee the Remington model 30, 30s and 30 express are all just M17s rebadged by Remington after the war and mad into civilian weapons. They did a pretty good job on them lightening the action and getting rid of the guppy belly magazine.
