Janssen Express

Yes, it is a bargain if you use it and enjoy it.

Ammo is made today, cases and bullets ( Woodleigh is one ,they had a fire recently but will be up soon again)

There is other makers also of them. Not same diameter as .470 bullets, little bit larger. Good price for the rifle .

I know that some higher end guns sidelocks were built by the firm, but all that I have handled were basic boxlocks or hammer guns. The majority were built prior to WWII. I believe production ended not long after the war. It is interesting to see a double rifle. It seems to follow the utilitarian design of the shotguns I have handled.
You're right. Janssen Fil ceased trading in 1957. The 12 Gauge 3" Magnum sidelock Ejector in my Avatar, was built by Janssen Freres in 1932. Janssen Freres ceased trading in 1948.

Janssen Fil exported large numbers of their rifles and shotguns to the Belgian Congo, while the place was still a colony of Belgium.

I think that is a reasonable price, if the barrels are in good condition, not a very sort after rifle or caliber & the market is a little soft for doubles right now (I think going to get softer to), I think this has a even less common bore diameter then the standard .475 No2 ?

What does it handle like, as all the .475 No2 I have handled were very heavy & not finely balanced, one had a huge action that I'm sure would handle a .600NE ?

Not being rude, but most English made doubles have a much more lively feel in the hand.
The Merkel is not a rifle to compare the handling or feel of either, not compared to a early Westley Richards - Rigby or H&H

Anyway have read that his enormous case was designed for cordite. Modern powders make most of the case remains empty and is neccesary to use fillers, foams..and It makes It difficult to reload.
Any 475 N2 out there to share his experience?

Unfortunately not with the cartridge 475 N°2 Jeffery.

I load the cartridges 577 Nitro Express and 600 Nitro Express and use Fiber Wads from Ballistics Products INC on both in different thicknesses depending on which powder I use. The two cartridges are almost cylindrical and can therefore be loaded with any kind of filler without any problems. I think that it should also not be a big problem with the cartridge 475 N°2 Jeffery. You should not choose a filler that is too hard just because of the shape of the cartridge.

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

Hello. If you haven't already sold this rifle then I will purchase. Please advise. Thank you.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
