I've been busy making paradox crimping tools

Hello All,

here's a update .... I've been busy again ... I made tool 70 for a 12 gauge and this is tool number 71 for another 8 gauge

I enjoy helping shooters by making them a tool for their paradox and bore guns ... I am glad to make more if shooters need them. Send me a PM if you want a tool

Please forgive my ignorance, but it seems I need an education on the Paradox shooting system. I have read a little about how it works, but this is the first I have seen of more detailed photos. To my eye, it looks like a slug of sorts is crimped into a full length, brass shotgun hull. Am I on the right track?
Can these be fired from a smoothbore, or do they require rifling?
Am genuinely interested,

Yes, generally a "paradox" projectile is a cylindrical bullet with one wide groove at it's middle.
Buck's crimper sort of pleats the mouth of the case inward to hold the bullet in.

In a smooth bore, a roundball or perhaps a Foster type slug would most likely perform the best.

I have a set of 10 bore, but they put a small roll crimp on, do you prefer the star crimp over the roll?

Yes, I believe the star crimp is better and less damage to the brass case mouth over time.

Well, its pretty simple ... you load the shell with the bullet in place .. then slide the body of the crimping tool over the loaded shell ... then place the tool's rammer head on top of the tool body with the shell inside .... and then give it a firm rap with the palm of your hand, or a mallet ... it forms the 6-point crimp to the case mouth which holds the bullet in place ... then you shoot ....

No, the 12 is the gauge of the shell stamped on the tool .. "12 gauge" ... that is the tool's special head that forms the crimp,... not a shell inside .... in the smaller gauges, 410ga, 28ga, 20ga, 16ga, 12ga, and 10ga, the crimping head is on top of the tool .... on the larger gauges, 8ga, 6ga, and 4ga, ... the forming head is inside the top of the tool. ... like the 8ga tool that is shown.

I have done it both ways and have not seen a real difference. The roll crimp frags and has micro cracks and the star cracks down the length. Just like with regular brass, proper annealing helps. I didn't have a star tool like you make though and used a small dowel. Your tool being even may be the ticket though.

My instructions with my tools include recommendation to anneal 1/2" of the case mouth .. every 4 or 5 loadings .... I have loaded my 12ga Magtech brass over 20 times with no splits.
