Hi all, just got this stock back from checkering. I’m looking for a good smith in Washington Idaho Or Montana that can be trusted to pillar/full bed this rifle. I travel all over for work so i’m flexible on location.
Thanks!

Who did your checkering?

I think someone posted a while back that Dennis Olsen is winding down?

Why not do it yourself? It's not rocket science. I have done several. By "full bedded" do you mean to the end of the barrel channel? Consensus seems to be that's rarely needed. Most of us free float barrels. Bedding to the end adds weight and often detrimental to accuracy.

What caliber are we looking at? Barrel looks thick so I'm presuming a thumper ... but only one crossbolt? Usually if only one crossbolt (lighter calibers) they are ahead of the magazine. Presume this is Model 70 (3-position safety on side of bolt shroud and Winchester flowered crossbolt).

It's a 30-06. I think one CB will be adequate. :)

Go to the American Custom Gunmaker's Guild website - they have a guide to all members and include location, contact info, examples of work, etc. Google is yoour pal in this case.

I like your LH M70 Classic. If your ever decide to sell it - PM me ;-)

Wayne York. Oregunsmithing, located in Pendleton, OR. Master gunmaker.
Thank you for the suggestion! I was headed to Boise yesterday and dropped it off with Wayne as his shop in Pendleton was on the way. He seems like an outstanding person and had some really cool projects going on in his shop.

Thank you for the suggestion, I ended up dropping it off with Wayne York, an outstanding gentleman.
Of all the guns I own this is the last one I’d ever sell, it took a long time to find it and I lucked out finding this factory custom shop stock. Finally got it back from checkering after being on a a waiting list for months, well worth the wait and hoping to hunt it this fall!

I know it’s not rocket science but I really do not have time to mess with it right now. Two jobs, wife’s due this month and then bear season starts August first here in Washington.

Its a 30-06 for right now but will be 35 Whelen soon. I suppose 1 Crossbolt will suffice with pillar bedding.

He has built 3 300 H&H Mags Rifles for me , And I own 1 of his Winchester Model 70 in 450 Watt . Jack is the man.
I don’t know why Jack didn’t come to mind. I’m from Nevada originally and have always wanted a custom Ruger Blackhawk built by Jack, his pistol smithing is usually what comes to mind.

Who did your checkering?
“The Wood Butcher” Evan Koch -ETKHANDMADE on socials.
As nice as the checkering is, working with Evan was even better. Once he got starter we were in constant text message communication and he sent photos every single step of the way. I could not be happier with a customer experience for custom gun work.

If you plan to upgrade to 35W, then I suggest having the gunsmith who beds it can add the other crossbolt ahead of magazine. Those Winchester crossbolts are easily picked up online. Also, relatively easy to install as they have round shafts. I installed a pair on my 404 built on 98 Mauser. Not an easy project for novice (like me!) but easier than installing square shaft crossbolts.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks

hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
