Gents,

A couple years ago I snagged a great 6.5x55 barreled action from the classifieds here. Trying to find another! Sporters or sporterized only, please. A complete rifle is preferable but a barreled action and trigger etc. could be OK too.

Thanks y'all.

Clockwork, I've purchased quite a few 6.5 X 55 Swedish Mausers that had been "sporterized" to some extent from Gunbroker.com. Most of them were in the $350 to $450 dollar range. In full Military guise these rifles go for upwards of $850. My last purchase was a rifle made at Mauser's Obendorf factory in 1896. Prior to taking it to Africa last Summer, I shot a 6 shot sub-MOA group with it using NORMA 156 Gr. Oryx. You just need to be patient and keep your eyes open. Good Luck! P.S. now that Deer Season is over maybe more of them will become available.

@Art Lambart II aren’t you the 6.5x55 go-to guy? Maybe you can point this fellow in the right direction for a good sporter?
My dad @Shootist43 is the 6.5x55 guy, I'm the 35 Whelen guy in the family. The best place I know to get a 6.5x55 is in one of@Shootist43s gun safe.

Ha! I appreciate y'all's advice. Slight change of plans, though. While trying to find a 6.5x55 to pair with my current one, a "grail rifle" opportunity came up and I can't resist. So my other 6.5x55 is now actually for sale!

Well, this didn't last long.

If anyone has a Ruger African or M70 XTR floating around, let me know.

Mate you might be the 35 Whelen guy in the family but you still have to get dad to load you up some 250s to 2,700 fps so you can have some real fun.
Have you tried the 225gn hydro's I sent your dad yet
Bob

Bob, I haven't loaded any 35 Whelen for several years. I have over a hundred rounds of loaded ammo available. I bought an 8 lb. container of CFE 223 two years ago that's still unopened. The Woodleigh Hydro's are being saved for future use in Africa.

@Shootist43
Art like me you need to get out and shoot more so we can load up some more ammo.
Maybe this year

I have an 1896 Swedish Mauser that’s sitting in a cheap synthetic stock. Other than that’s is original military configuration. I have the military stock for it Bruning’s not sure I have all the furniture. It hasn’t been drilled and tapped for a scope and has the original military sights. I could be talked out of it if you’re interested.

An XTR popped up on GB...not mine btw. There is another one as well as a number of interesting rifles in that caliber.
I reached out to the seller a while back. It's been sitting there at that price but he wasn't interested in chatting offers. (I don't consider those pics to reflect "new old stock" condition, especially at the muzzle.)

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
